Michael Leggiere's first of two volume treatment on the Franco-Prussian War of 1813, "Napoleon and the Struggle for Germany" Vol.1 The War of Liberation, Spring 1813.
488 pages.

The second volume to follow late June?

And

"The End of Empire" – "Napoleon's 1814 Campaign" by George Nafziger. 760+ pages

Both books look very "meaty' indeed [and weigh a ton!].

Good time for the wife to visit her Mom out of state. Plenty of reading this week/end.

Both of Leggiere's volumes are out in hardback in the UK; they've been sitting on my bookshelf for two weeks, in the queue.

Both volumes are listed individually and as a set on the US Amazon web site. Right now the first volume is out of stock and the second won't be released until June 30.

As well as other books by Leggiere.

Back in the day, several of us knew Mike was going to be long-winded when he presented a graduate seminar paper of 66 pages on Prussian reforms, when the rest of us adhered to the required 25-page limit. He is a fine historian and an expert on many things Prussian.

Glad to hear it Greystreak, my porch is in Flint, Michigan, USA. Somewhat west of yours.

Since the book is published in UK, it makes sense to me that you'd have it before us.

Hopefully, they'll get Vol 2 over here before the published 30 June 2015 date!

At least you will get them cheaper over there than we in the UK!

I would highly recommend The End of Empire. I couldn't put it down. Brilliant book full of quality and quantity. I just hope Nafziger does a series covering the hundred days campaign. That would be brilliant and much needed.

Gazzola: I like George's work but was hesitating because of cost and space considerations, however after reading your above remarks, will be purchasing the End of Empire ASAP. Thanks, John Miller

Just started to read this week Vol.1 of the Struggle for Germany.

His "Napoleon and Berlin" is a great study of Bulow and the Defence of Berlin in the Autumn Campaign on the Befreiungskriege

Sadly, I gather the price might be much higher in the US, but it will be still be great value. And I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I wrote a review on his book and the only complaint I gave was I found some of the maps were not big enough. The book pages are smaller than some of his previous titles, such as the Dresden book. But they are still good maps and clear to read. There are some typing errors but you find these in all books. But it really is a great read, so much detail and information and so many actions. I just hope he brings out a Waterloo Campaign book. We could do with a really good one with the same amount of detail and information George places within his titles.

IMHO the map issue would be a minor one. Thanks, John Miller

It was only a problem with some of the maps, not all of them. And perhaps I have been spoilt somewhat by the maps in the Dresden book. Even so, it is still a great book and well worth owning.
