"Last night, Penny Dreadful left London and focused almost entirely on Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). The installment largely amounted to a flashback contained in a bottle episode that looked back at why Vanessa has been drawing scorpions in her own blood. (Still creepy.) Turns out, she once went into the woods to seek counsel about her supernatural powers from a woman named the Cut-Wife (her name comes from the fact that she performs abortions and she was played by a flawless Patti LuPone). The Cut-Wife asked her to think of her friend Mina, whom Vanessa was still trying to help at the time, and pick a card from a Tarot deck. Naturally, Vanessa picked The Devil—her suitor from the start. The Cut-Wife, however, notes that the card doesn't explicitly mean Lucifer. It can mean something else. "A dark lover approaching, bringing terror," Vanessa suggests. "Irresistible, part of you, but not. The whisper of something ghastly and beautiful." For the Cut-Wife, that answer was on the money. For viewers, it was a perfectly distilled explanation for why we keep watching this show"

Me too. Actually I'm enjoying this second season more than the first one.

All ok with the episode until it came to Cromwell, second Newbury and running away? Yes but no.
