"From a pure military standpoint, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has taken a significant pounding from the air over the past nine months. Indeed, ever since President Barack Obama authorized U.S. military airstrikes on ISIL targets in Iraq and Syria on August 8, 2014 — a decision that was originally justified by the White House on the grounds of saving the ethnic Yazidi community from being wiped out in an act of genocide — the terrorist group has lost considerable military hardware and manpower. As of May 8, according to Central Command headquarters, U.S. and coalition aircraft have destroyed 6,278 ISIL-related targets— a full nine months since the air campaign was initiated.

These targets include, but are certainly not limited to: heavy weaponry captured by retreating Iraqi and Syrian government soldiers on the battlefield; ISIL fighting positions, checkpoints, and convoys; transportation; communications infrastructure; leadership; and oil refineries used by the organization to sell stolen Iraqi oil on the black market. Over 77 tanks alone have been taken off the battlefield by coalition aircraft, an achievement that has no doubt diminished ISIL's ability to expand into new territory against opponents who may find themselves outgunned and undermanned…"

Well, I must say, for a bunch of ffolkes stuck in the 12th Century…they sure know how to use the internet and modern technology in order to get their point across.

I think that is their main weapon.

Those are some good figures … but like has been said before in at least 2 wars. "Blow them back into the Stone Age … no … wait … they are almost there already !" But as long as they hide among civilains, are willing to die/be martyred for their "cause" and seem to have an almost limitless amount of bodies to send to the front/Allah … Well you know the rest …

social media is their greatest weapon and the sooner we stop posting their Bleeped text the sooner they will disappear

Hey .. pick-ups used by the enemy are valid targets too … every little bit helps … evil grin

Gwydion18 May 2015 8:39 a.m. PST

US and Coalition aircraft have destroyed 3 confirmed ISIL pickups, several hundred donkeys and a few thousand people we hope to Bleeped text weren't just innocent Arabs wandering around on desert roads trying to escape the fighting.

Yes, that is the paradigm of insurgent warfare … ID'ing the "enemy" from the air or even the ground can be very difficult, etc. … But that is the way insurgencies/COIN works.

Seems that the most Lethal weapon of them are the suicide cars?.

I would agree. Suicide cars are the equivalent of a coalition airstrike and just as devastating, also, IS has an endless supply of them.

Andrew has it right. ISIS has done a masterful job of managing their message on social media. For getting their word out and recruiting, that is their most powerful weapon.

Their most lethal weapon is their willingness to martyr themselves in a variety of ways. Such as suicide/homocide cars, etc. …
