I tried to stay out of it, but once again I lack the discipline. I say free Trenchraider. First and foremost, how can this be construed as a personal attack? "I would prefer he apologize to the TMP community as a whole for the mess he caused with his faux-outrage fueled vendetta." Trenchraider said something I don't agree with and is certainly controversial, but is has been ruled every single Editor as not being a personal attack, but Trenchraider has been sky-lined (by a TMP member pulling Trenchraider's comments from a dead thread and starting a new thread aimed, apparently, at punishing him) and bullied by several TMP members who have failingly attacked him on several different axes, twisting and stretching his words miles from beyond what he said. Trenchraider has been personally attacked numerous times (even the tiresome Nazi canard was worked in), Americans and Christians have been personally attacked as ignorant bigots, and indeed Trenchraider's comment above was met with "I'll apologize after you apologize for being a bigot" (for which the poster, Rebelyell, was not DH'ed, simply snipped). As mentioned by the Editors, Trenchraider stated an opinion, which mostly no one agrees with, and it was largely ignored by TMP until Rebel started a punitive thread which now stretches 10 pages and 465+ posts. Trenchraider didn't break forum rules and doesn't deserve to be Dawghoused. V/R, Jack |

Since no one is really harmed by being in the DH, leave him in there. He said enough on the offending thread to be "punished", so leave that quote as his Al Capone income tax evasion moment. |

I want a free trench raider miniature too even if the special case sock puppet disagrees. |

The offense was the "faux-outrage" accusation, which crossed the line to a personal attack. |

Killed off by a reporting forum "quote" . He should have stopped as soon as he found out . Posting even more is just like throwing bullets at a guy with a gun. |

"Faux outrage" is an attack???? Geez, this place has gone soft recently |

"Faux outrage" is an attack????Geez, this place has gone soft recently Once he said that the outrage was fake, it made it a personal attack. |

Indeed. Seems pretty weak though in terms of "attack". A bit like being savaged by a soggy lettuce."People do seem to be rather thin skinned these days. I guess if he'd expressed it as an opinion he'd have been ok though :) |

Man, the DH is filling up pretty fast. I feel like the weird one being on the outside. |

I have to admit that I do not know where opinion ends and "opinion" begins. Perhaps the FAQs should be updated to clarify it. |

Roll 1D6. 4+ the opinion is OK, otherwise a personal attack. |

Free at last! Free at last! Free at last! I must say that puppy chow is not to my taste…and is even worse when by rights one never should have been eating it to begin with! Anyway, thanks to Just Jack for creating this thread and to those folks who gave their support. It was a nice gesture, even if it came to naught in the end. Has a "Free So and So" thread ever gotten someone released from the DH early? I don't recall. Anyway, I'm actually in agreement with OFM's sock puppet in that "no one is really harmed by being in the DH". Certainly there is no physical harm, and as I'm not a very prolific poster, missing a few days is no big deal. Certainly one of our members who is addicted to posting on TMP, would feel it more than I do. That being said, as I did nothing wrong and broke no rules, the experience was a slight against my personal sense of honor and justice. To quote Justine Jones (of "The Devil in Miss Jones" fame) "I don't mind, really. What the heck. It's just that nothing in my life warranted this. If only I had done something (wrong)…anything. Then it wouldn't seem so bad". I'm a person who takes responsibility for his actions. If I do something wrong, I take ownership of it and accept the consequences. I've been called (with good reason) a "compulsive rule follower". But the other side of that sense of fairness and deference to the rules is that I get irritated when I'm unjustly accused…let alone incorrectly punished as happened here. The bottom line is that my "faux outrage" comment was not an attack. It was an expression of my opinion that Rebelyell200's outrage was (like is so often the case with the type) exaggerated. This would seem to be confirmed by his "throw everything against the wall and see what sticks" approach. Others in the thread in question, as well as here, would seem to agree. Certainly my comment was not anywhere nearly as aggressive and personally attacking as a number of other comments in that threat that remain unpunished. Rebelyell2006's repeatedly calling me a "bigot" springs to mind. I can't help but to suspect that I was thrown to the dogs (literally) to appease the lynch mob in the "Wrong Call" thread and those who allege that certain political groups get preferential treatment here. Anyway, I've been long winded enough, so I'll close now. But before doing so, let me address Bill Armintrout directly. You made a bad call here, my friend. You can't give me those five days back. But I request that you make a public apology for this incorrect DHing. That would go a long ways toward making this right, and showing your fairness. Thanks. Martin |

Rebelyell2006 | 20 May 2015 7:53 a.m. PST |
That only applies to opinions that Bill disagrees with. |

I find that once a poster play the '' term they are no longer worth listening to, just like all those political posters who decided that they'd call Republicans "Repugs"… To me it symbolizes a mind made up, and a VERY narrow one at that, and there's not enough time in my life to listen to narrow-minded blather. So I just stifle and ignore posters who use those terms. |

But I request that you make a public apology for this incorrect DHing. That would go a long ways toward making this right, and showing your fairness. My opinion hasn't changed. What you said in the comment that got you Dawghoused was a personal attack on rebelyell. You did not say "exaggerated." You said "faux." Faux is defined as "not genuine; fake or false." Accusing him of being fake or false is a personal attack. |
Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy | 20 May 2015 10:15 a.m. PST |
I still disagree, Armintrout. The phrase was certainly not meant as an attack as I explained above. Perhaps I should have made myself more clear, or perhaps you should have asked me to clarify. The fact that more folks than just I were puzzled about this DHing decision should have been a red flag here. By the by, if accusing someone of being fake or false is an attack worthy of a DH stay, then why was Rebelyell2006 not munching puppy chow as well? After all he openly accused me of lying at least once in that thread….and I reported it. I guess I should not hold my breath await you to do the right thing (at least as I see it) here? Martin |
