To the wise folk of TMP: Does anybody know of a company which produces Cold War era decals for Canadian forces c. 1985? It's a long shot, I know, but maybe one of you lot knows of a manufacturer which has filled this tiny niche. Nothing ventured, nothing gained so who knows, I might get lucky! Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

I've never seen one, though with the present rise in interest in the Cold War, one can hope… If anyone's listening, I'd like black maple leaves with white outlines (for Leopards), plain black maple leaves of a smaller size for light AFVs and very small Canadian flags for the mudguards (in red/white and low-vis black). Some callsign numbers/letters in black would also be nice… |

Does Dom's decals do one? |

Generalstoner49: I searched Dom's exciting new web page, TSS/QRF and I-94 for them and could find none. Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

Must admit I'm beginning to contemplate cold war stuff when I actually get some free time, but I'm not sure that Canadian is the obvious starting point for a range…. |

I read First Clash many years ago, and definitely rate it, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few nationalities that I probably ought to do before getting to Canucks…. |

We have (or at least had, unless they are out of print or missing) colour Canadian flags, about 3mm by 2mm. Is that what you are after? |
GeoffQRF | 16 May 2015 6:41 a.m. PST |
Can't remember if I printed plain maple leaves, but they are already drawn so easy to do. |
Navy Fower Wun Seven | 16 May 2015 3:53 p.m. PST |
Hey Dom, sorry my post seems a bit harsh on a reread – no offense meant mate! And yes I take your point! Geoff, I think the markings were black Maple leaves? Or that may have been later…must consult armoured acorn! |
Rod I Robertson | 16 May 2015 3:56 p.m. PST |
Geoff: Both Canadian flags in red and white for mud-guards and black maple leaves with and without white trim for tank turret sides and vehicle sides. The maple leaves without trim would be smaller by a third than the white trimmed ones (2/3 the size). I have not measured the mud guards on the Lynxes and M-113's so I'm not sure if 3 x 2mm is the right size or not. When I get home I'll check. I need all three types so if your willing to make them available I will buy a bunch of them. This thread may work out after all! Cheers Geoff! |
Jemima Fawr | 16 May 2015 3:58 p.m. PST |
Geoff, they need to be small enough to fit onto the mudguard of an M113. Now I come to think of it, NATO tactical symbols in white would be good for Canadians, West Germans and a number of others. Note the small Canadian flag here (on the left) and the very dirtied maple leaf on the driver's side:

I can't believe I'm making notes here…. Obviously no sense in duplicating such a niche topic, so I'll wait and see if Geoff runs with it…. |
Rod I Robertson | 16 May 2015 6:42 p.m. PST |
Woo-hoo! Two possible sources. This could be my lucky day. Gotta go out and buy a lottery ticket. Cheers Dom! |

I print 20 slots at one time, usually three colours, so red, black and white. Then it's just a matter of the sizes. |

Blimey, if people are paying 10 Euros a sheet for the wrong scale, maybe I should be doing something…. ;-) Geoff, are you likely to fill 20 slots to get a print run any time soon, or am I having a go at this one…? My schedule is looking reasonably free for the first time in many months (putting paid to reprint mountain over the next few days then hopefully getting some design time) so I might start nibbling at the edges of a modern range in the next few weeks. Canadian's still a ridiculous place to start, but at least there's less to cover than for Soviet…. ;-) Dom. |
Rod I Robertson | 17 May 2015 11:28 a.m. PST |
Geoff and Dom: What's a slot? I would be in for four to five sheets assuming each sheet has enough decals to do a half dozen vehicles. And I might buy more if the price is reasonable – note 10 quid per sheet is not reasonable. Rod Robertson. |

Geoff gets his stuff contract printed in A4 pages, so can't produce "a new code", only "a batch of 10 or 20 new codes" – so whether this is an imminent prospect or a one-day-when-I-have-enough-stuff-to-go-with-it depends on whether he has another 19 sheets lined up, or indeed some number between 0 and 18…. My print process is much more time-consuming per page printed, but doesn't have the same inflexibility, so I'm more able to knock up a new sheet or three without having to schedule other stuff to go into production with it |
Risaldar Singh | 17 May 2015 12:08 p.m. PST |
Hey Dom, these are priced for people who pay through the nose for their 1/87 tanks. I'm really glad to learn that we can expect a Cold War range from you. Do you have an ETA for Norwegian recce tank markings? <G> PS: If you had any sense, you'd be making decals for model trains… ;-) |
Doms Decals | 17 May 2015 12:10 p.m. PST |
Norwegian are firmly on my list, but not until the actual models look imminent – I draw the line at producing decals for models that don't actually exist…. PS – If I had any sense I'd not be making decals at all, but you're right that doing them for wargamers is particularly high folly…. ;-) |
GeoffQRF | 17 May 2015 3:42 p.m. PST |
Yep, as Dom says we print A4 sheets with 20 slots (20 mini sheets per A4), so it's not a case of 'just producing Canadians'. Equally a sheet has to be all the same set of colours – no point adding one extra colour just for one slot as that's an expensive way to do it. I'll check with Sarah tomorrow what needs a reprint in black, white and red. We almost certainly can fill the slots and it's then just a case of redrawing the maple to the right colour combinations and sizes. |
Rod I Robertson | 17 May 2015 8:30 p.m. PST |
Geoff: 3 x 2 mm red and white Canadian flags will fit on M-113's mudguards and on most of the guards of your excellent Lynx model so that is probably the size to go with. Black maple leaves should be about 3-4 mm tall (including stem) and black maple leaves with white trim between 5-6 mm tall (including stem). Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

Add me to the list of 15mm decals for 4 CMBG (as long as my old C/S's are included). Really would like to do a Cold War 15mm 1/100 army in anticipation of what hopefully will be a nice set of playable beer and pretzel rules from FOW Tim do you have to post pics of the Lawfield Corridor. You just erased decades of therapy. |
