… does the soon to be separation of Paypal and Ebay mean for people buying games/miniatures/rulebooks off Ebay? Will it be irrelevant? Will the impact be minimal? Will there be repercussions for customers or sellers? Edit: was not sure where to put this – Editor can move to more suitable forum as needed, please. |

Doesn't ebay require buyers to use ebay now? Perhaps they will go back to allowing other forms of payment (unless paypal pays them off). |

eBay users always had to use eBay. I had an auction before Christmas where a friend paid me cash and I recall nothing preventing me from doing this. |

Ebay did not "require" you to use Paypal but unless you could get cash, they certainly scared everyone involved into using it. Considering how stacked in favor of buyers it is, it creates powerful incentives for buyers. The real question is what if Ebay replaces it with something else? Will gamers flock to the new system? Will they also have Paypal or will they drop it? |

Back in the day, I did plenty of ebay transactions with checks and money orders so, I don't know when they started requiring paypal, but it was not always so. |

Not sure, and eBay keeps asking me if I want to link the two accounts. |

Reading, into this it appears that while they will be separate businesses, they will still be linked. It states the following on the EBay site regarding PayPal use: "We've updated our user agreements and privacy policies to describe how we'll protect and share your information. For example, eBay and PayPal will work together to: Detect potential fraud and protect your account Provide you customer support" Process payments, and offer shipping and related services" So going forward it seems PayPal will still be accepted. |

Paypal has become a world standard, for all sorts of online commerce. There's 0 chance they'd replace it with anything else. (and offline too. I can buy stuff at the Home Depot store, in person, using paypal) |
