" In the mid 3rd century BC the thureiophoroi became a synonym for mercenaries. Their name is taken from oval shield thureos, adopted from Galatians, and like theirs was wood covered with leather, with a spinned boss and central handgrip. Shields were usually painted plain white or pale colour, without design. Only other defence of thureophoroi was an iron or bronze Macedonian helmet, sometimes crested. Weapons were long spear, javelins and sword. Clothing colours on the ancient paintings include white, red-brown, rose, blue and ochre. Some units may have been uniformed, especially garrisons. Cloaks are not always shown and may have been worn in battle.

The miniatures are 15 mm from WE-MH08 Forged in Battle set, based for Impetus, painted as a commission. My client asked me to paint only figures, so the bases are left untouched."
