(SPOILER ALERT) "Half a lifetime ago, George Miller unleashed 1979's Mad Max: a dirt-cheap, postapocalyptic Outback thriller starring Mel Gibson as a badass, leather-clad, hard-driving survivor. The hit film and its sequels, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), revved up the next generation of high-speed action cinema. Miller, now 70, promises his new film, Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult, will push his dystopian world even further into the future. "In the 30-odd years since," says Miller, who also directed The Witches of Eastwick, Happy Feet, and Babe, "not only has the world changed, cinema has changed. The way we experience films has changed. And I've changed too." Believing that audiences require ever more spectacular action but, at the same time, that they are desensitized by greenscreen fakery, Miller placed a reported $140 USD million bet on a film "that is almost a continuous chase," shot mostly in-camera by a crew of more than 1,000, with real 18-wheelers and monster trucks battling in the Namibian desert. "We couldn't make it artificial," Miller says. "We decided to go old-school." Here's a look at what it took to realize this epic chase…"

I'm so excited about this – I adored the first 2 Max films years ago. A friend is off to see a preview tonight. The jammy git. |

What do you mean the first 2 Max films? There have only been 2 Max films. Until now. |

There have been 3 Mad Max films, up until now. The original film is a B grade movie -- worth watching if you are a movie buff, but distinctly different from the later movies. IMHO the only connection to the later movies is the name of the character and the fact the main character is played by Mel Gibson. |

I love the first Mad Max, and I think there's still more of a connection between it and the second two movies. Two different styles, for sure, but that's because one movie is pre-apocalypse and the other two are post-. And if the connection has to be shallow, at least remember to include the Interceptor! ;) Can't wait for the new film! |

MM1 (the original) was a B Movie in every sense. A good try but nothing too great, IMHO. The second one is an excellent film and set a standard which the third one then threw away. Still just in my opinion! This latest one looks fun. John T |

He means he refuses to acknowledge the third film, not that it doesn't exist. |

In which case there was just one film -- but it was fantastic! |

The first is still my favorite. Don't go into it expecting a postapocalyptic free for all though. It is a set of character studies. I am very glad they used old school practical effects for Fury Road. CGI tricks are all too often an excuse for bad film making these days. |

Dave +1. Give me real-world stunt work over CGI any day. I'll be seeing Fury Road later today. Haven't been this psyched for a movie in a long, long time. And every single early review I've seen has been completely and ecstatically positive. Woo hoo! |

Excellent action movie, hell, an excellent movie period. |

If you liked Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior see Fury Road!! Tom Hardy is not quite as good as Mel Gibson was, but he is not bad. George Miller has knocked it out of the park. Tom Hardy has appearently signed on for three more Mad Max films. If they are as good as this one we are in for a treat. |

I wasn't impressed the first time I saw the trailer, but repeated viewings and the overwhelmingly positive reception had me quite excited to see it. I was not remotely prepared for how good it was. The vehicles were great, Imperator Furiosa was great, Max was good enough, the warboys were great, and the soundtrack truck was amazing. |
