Did a rigging and ink shade test on a prepainted ship from Sails of Glory. Need to re-do two rigging threads but I like what the Army Painter soft shade did for the sails.

I like the sails, and admire your bravery for rigging it. I'm staring at some ships now, but can't pull the trigger to start.

How do you like SoG as a game? Have Heart of Oak, but it might be a bit too much for the group.

It is a really straightforward game but I think would really bog down with more than 3-4 ships per side. The card maneuver mechanic works very well, too.

+1 on the AP soft shade. I used a light ivory dry brush after the AP wash as well, not strictly necessary though.

FYI – Paint the yards black or dark brown before you wash the sails. Adds 100% to the detail and finish.

SOG: I have run convention games with up to 10 ships using all the advanced rules. Best to have one ship per player unless they are familiar with the rules then a player could handle 2-3 ships. Someone on the west coast ran the Battle of the Nile using SOG (modified).

I entirely agree, using most of the advanced rules is best played with each player running one ship.
We play against my solo system link and have up to 8 ships on table as a maximum…so far.

Did you apply the Soft Tone wash directly by brush onto the model or did you prep the sails prior to that? I've been eyeing mine with a view towards hitting them up with a wash but I wasn't sure if I would have to prepaint the sails first.

Directly with a brush. No prep at all.
