Which company makes the best 6mm (1:300 or 1:285) models? |
Weasel | 10 May 2015 1:50 p.m. PST |
I'd say Darkest Star for vehicles and Angel Barracks for infantry. Lots of great companies though. |

Tough call – depends on your view of what SF combat would be like in the future – drones? 2015 combat on other planets? Revert to earlier modes of combat because of technological advances negating current/previous technology? Also depends of what you think future warriors will look like – Power armor? Advanced combat body armor looking like "modern body armor but more protective? Ridiculous knee pads (adds meaning to "service troops" and shoulder pads? Directional force field armor? Energy weapons? Elite psychic warriors? "Combat Drugs" ? |

I like the olde Adler/Darkest Star minis the best, since they look superb. GZG has some very nice stuff, as does Brigade too. |

Michael at Angel Barracks does an excellent range of 6mm figures, vehicles and buildings angelbarracks.co.uk |

Onslaught Miniatures Dark Realm Steel Crown Troublemaker games Theres loads out there! I really like the Onslaught stuff at the moment…. |
Weasel | 10 May 2015 4:13 p.m. PST |
I have some of the Troublemaker infantry, and they are very nice too. Great detail and they come with bases :-) |
Legion 4 | 10 May 2015 4:42 p.m. PST |
Wow … Since I all I do is 6mm Sci-fi … Off the top of my head, in no particular order [* means I don't have any ] … DRM, SCP/Exodus Wars, CinC/PFC SEM, Microworld, TMG, Onslaught, Angel Barracks, GZG, Brigade*, Darkest Star*, Plasmablast*, Command Horizon*, Khurasan*, OGRE, Battletech. Can't include GW/FW, they don't make their Epic 6mm line anymore. You still can find them on eBay, Tactical Command, Bartertown and even sometimes here on TMP ! I'd throw GHQs Wehrmacht'47* line and even some of their 3rd World Warrior line*. Paint their Muj* and Sub-Saharan Irregulars* with green or blue skin, they could make good primative aliens ! |
JammerMan | 10 May 2015 4:51 p.m. PST |
Jez at Old Crow is still turning out 6mm SF. I received the new Mech Hangers a few months ago. He has remolded them and they are a little bigger and better than before. Lots of buildings, both military and civilian. |
Legion 4 | 10 May 2015 4:53 p.m. PST |
Oh yeah, forgot about him ! I've got a 6mm Slammers TF with OC Slammer AFVs and GZG NAC Grunts … perfect for Hammer's Slammers ! |
Mister Tibbles | 10 May 2015 5:00 p.m. PST |
I have found that GZG' s 6mm moulds are well past their prime. YMMV. But far better figures available today, such as Onslaught. |
Legion 4 | 10 May 2015 5:08 p.m. PST |
GZG's vehicles I'm not crazy about but I like their Infantry … Here's a Last Chancers/Dirty Dozen unit I made using GW, DRM and GZG Infantrymen …

Onslaught Miniatures Dark Realm Steel Crown Troublemaker games These are my pick also. Microworld and PLasmablast also do some nice stuff. |

My vote is for Brigade Models in the UK. They have an awesome variety to pick from, and just keep adding more 6mm (as well as various other scales and genres) minis ranges. |

Brigade Models would have to be my first choice for one simple reason: the ability to re-create my forces (for the most part) based on their models in both 6mm and 15mm scales. Close second (tied) would be Microworld, Plasmablast, Dark Realm, Steel Crown, Troublemaker, and Onslaught, each of which carries excellent and unique designs that are well cast and delivered promptly. Khurasan gets an honorable mention – great models and rapid delivery, but limited ranges (though those can also be duplicated in 15mm). |
Mute Bystander | 11 May 2015 3:05 a.m. PST |
Seems duplication in scale (6/15mm) has become quite the desirable trait. I agree it definitely has a lot of traction for me but I have it still in the "added bonus" for future buying part of the decision process. |

Michael at Angel Barracks does an excellent range of 6mm figures, vehicles and buildings He does indeed. |

I'm looking forward to Khurasan's 6mm Jasmine Throne aliens being released … If I get them they will be my first Khurasan products … OH ! I almost forgot !!!! Zombiesmith makes 6mm Quar ! They look pretty nice ! May have to get a few ! |

CnC is my favorite for the old FASA Renegade Legion/Centurion minis – beautifully sculpted and very well cast every time The product line is limited and only grav vehicles – link They recently added a range of 1/285 Sci-Fi – the Solar Empire Marines which include infantry & some other vehicles and new turrets on some of the FASA Centurion grav tank hulls link There is also their older home grown Sci-Fi line – again the sculpting and casting is beautiful link & they give discounts for bulk purchases – delivery can be slow it is a one man show |
boy wundyr x | 11 May 2015 1:25 p.m. PST |
I'm sort of with Legion 4 – I have lots and can't really prioritize who does the best. Old Crow probably has the cleanest resin casts in the history of the universe but that's a specific sub-category; GZG and Brigade UK have lots of variety and others are catching up. |
Legion 4 | 11 May 2015 2:56 p.m. PST |
Tony … you and Leon are biased ! Angel Barracks does have nice stuff, but the range is limited at this point. And CinC/PFC SEM range is one of newer most well rounded ranges IMO. Along with the older DRM and SCP/Exodus Wars. With more on the way from most of the model makers mentioned … But as some may guess, I'm a bit biased. As boy wundyr noted, there are alot of nice options to choose from. 6mm rules !!!!!!!!!! |

Off Topic slightly How can I get some more Old Crow Hammer Slammers in 6mm, and what is the full range for 6mm? I picked up some Slammer blower tanks and SPGs but would like a good sized combat team of them…. Thanks |

Here's a pic of my Slammer TF …
Just contact Jez/Old Crow direct. My TF has all the Slammer vehicles available. Including Combat Cars and Jeeps … As I said, I used GZG's NAC Infantry for the Slammer Grunts … Here's more pics of my Slammers link Here's the old OC link, and has most of the 6mm Slammer models link Here's another link from another Hammer 6mm fan link Link to Jez oldcrowmodels.co.uk What we need is an updated list of the other 6mm models from the Slammer-verse that Jez makes ? Maybe some one here can update us. I'll try to see if I can find out if Jez can enlighten us … |
Legion 4 | 12 May 2015 7:33 a.m. PST |
And I would be not being fair if I don't let you all know. 2nd City Games carries 6mm Battletech and Scotia [with pics !] link And some cool Sci-fi 6mm buildings … |
Legion 4 | 12 May 2015 4:40 p.m. PST |
Got an email from Jez at Old Crow Ralph, Most of the Slammers opposition forces were made up of existing Old Crow designs. Many of these are now available in 6mm. As a result I can now put together forces from - Broglie's Legion Compagnie de Barthe Zapiroskiye Brigade (except Sabre tanks) Flaming Sword Apex Dragoons (except Claymore) Sincanmo Federation Lightning Division Post 340TW Prosperity Rebels Waldheim Dragoons Alaudae Legion Phenix Moirots Friesland Defence Force Tricky to add them to the link you've got – it's an archived copy of a website that is no longer hosted. Jez I'm seeing if Jez can give me a a new link that actually shows all those new models. And I'll share it with you all. |
