I'm currently working on converting a huge Pirates of the Caribbean toy ship into something more suitable for 28mm. Here are my two blog posts on it so far:

Comments most welcome!

Awesome and very timely. I am embarking on a similar project very soon, except using some Playmobil ships.

I did three different pirate ships marketed by Disney with three different Pirates of the Caribbean movies… two are variations of the Black Pearl and one is the Queen Anne's Revenge. All three appear to be somewhat smaller than the beauty you are working on. They were great projects and turned out really well as ships for 28mm figures. Good luck with yours.

Your work is looking pretty good so far. I'm looking forward to your next installment.

I have four Mega Blogs Pirates of the Caribbean Ships, and a smaller Playmobil ship to convert.
Looks like Pirates are going to be popular in NZ.

Thanks for the comments! I have a Playmobil one waiting after this one. Toy ships are a real blessing for pirate gamers, I think, seeing their size, price and quality.

I got the megablocks skull ship as well in an online auction and the seller threw in two playmobil ships!

I got an almost complete Mega blocks POTC ship for NZ$10 on Trademe. My best win yet, but I think two free ships probably trumps that.

Thanks for this. I've got a playmobile pirate ship waiting for just such a conversion and this gives me alot of ideas.

Work on the ship progresses! Here is the latest update. I'm really happy with it so far.

Just picked up two POTC ships on ebay. Hope to start on them in the fall.
