"* Hoped suit will work in every terrain, and in every temperature

The US Army is developing an invisibility suits for its soldiers.

It has requested firms developing 'stealth fabrics' to get in touch – and is hoping to test the first prototypes within 18 months.

It is hoped the suit will work in every terrain, from deserts to jungles – and in every temperature.

The US army's call for proposals from companies calls for wearable camouflage with a chameleon-like ability to change according to the background.

'A chameleon-like or adaptive camouflage system would continuously update the colour and pattern, concealing the Soldier in the current environment…"

Wow, that looks great!

Now, they just need to remember not to have nice, straight, clean-cut edges, since there are very few of those in nature.

Other than that minor detail, which is easily fixable, it looks superb.

Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing that all the Traveller and Star Trek Sci-Fi tech is getting developed for real, and faster than I would have thought, e.g. new spacecraft engines, personal communicators, chameleon suits, lasers as weapons, 3D printed and tablet foods, etc., etc.?

A nightmare for wargamers! How would you know if your little soldiers have the right uniform?

Worse yet, after the game you won't know if you've picked up all of your minis or not.

Cool, and against low-tech target, might be effective. Won't IR/thermal imaging negate the effect? Not only Traveller/Star Trek. It is interesting to see the tech being developed…this is an Elven cloaking device :-)

I suspect they may add an internal, thermal shielding coating as well, just for grins.

Actually, the stealth suits will save me a lot of trouble and money in painting and purchasing minis.

I just declare to my opponent(s), surrender now, I've got you surrounded!

Remember me scene when Frodo in LOTR is hidden with Sam in the mountains in front of the marching enemy.
