TNE3000 – you may want to check about that claim – perhaps starting with Athens – hint – it's were we get the word and concept of "democracy" from. |

the US election of 1800 was the first time a government changed parties without violence I assume that you're not counting the Tories taking control from the Whigs in 1762 (John Stuart succeeds Thomas Pelham-Holles), the Whigs taking back the premiership in 1763, the Tories under Lord North taking control in 1770, Watson-Wentworth becoming PM in 1782, or William Pitt the Younger seizing control back for the Tories in 1783 (and holding it until 1801)? |

I am not sure that is true Many good examples there, buy you'll notice that a lot of them are wars for independence, as opposed to the overthrow of a domestic regime. I'll disagree with you about Cuba, Vietnam, and Nicaragua. Based on what I know, all three states became far more intrusive surveillance states than their predecessors. |

I have wondered about this topic for quite awhile. What I do know is from friends and family that were there. During the height of the LA riots in 92 the US marines at Camp Pendleton went on full alert. The helicopters and planes were fueled up and were fully equipped with a full ordnance load-out. Men with families in effected neighborhoods were quietly weeded out. The men understood they were on a 15 minute call-up should the President call for the riot to be put down. |
