I am trying to find some useful ways to take advantage of a new LED unit and to reduce my reliance on flash.

Interesting – how much is "a little pricey"?

I intend to get some cheaper ones, and mount two, one on either side of my camera. This is an example from the UK ebay site;

sorry – I have been away from this thread. The Unit comes in 3, 6 and 8 LED variations, costing £45.00 GBP, £70.00 GBP and £100.00 GBP respectively.

An advantage is that the white balance is set at K5600, so you can get daylight effect and truer colour.

I have the 8 LED version and I am finding that this can cast light much further and more evenly over my gaming table. For close up work, such as photographing say small dioramas or e-bay items, it is much more power than needed and I have it set to level 2 (out of 4) with a diffuser filter on the front (provided), so a smaller unit would do just as well for those type of shots.

I am finding that for indoor shots, it has replaced my flash cube.

The battery life is also pretty amazing. It charges of a USB and my manual says that depending on lighting strength, I can use it for between 1 and 3 hours off one charge. I have have only charged mine once and it didn't need it really, so I wouldn't dispute those figures.

I'm looking for something that will help with photograhing painted minis – not a whole table. The three light – will it do that?

Actually I'm going to try this and let you know how I get on
