A state-of-the-art Russian tank, which was shown to the public for the first time earlier this month, on Thursday ground to a halt during the final Victory Day rehearsal.

The tank, T-14 Armata, is said to surpass all Western versions because of its remotely controlled cannon and the protection it offers to its crew. The T-14, which replaces the T-72 and T-90, is set to undergo trials next year.

Weaponry was rolling across central Moscow Thursday morning in the dress rehearsal of the military parade on Red Square on May 9 as Russia commemorates the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II…

Another bunch of guys sent to the remotest, coldest, forlorn post in the far east.
Bleeped text happens.

Jcfrog07 May 2015 9:09 a.m. PST

Bleep happens too esp from the US.

bsrlee07 May 2015 9:38 a.m. PST

Blue Screen of Death? Or whatever color they use in Russia.

skippy000107 May 2015 9:58 a.m. PST

What's Russian for Deja Vu? Didn't they have scores of T28's and T35's break down during a May Day Parade in the thirties?

The tank looks good. Interesting design. Would like to see speculative gamestats for it.

…and a hot-lookin' female crew…

Visceral Impact Studios07 May 2015 10:06 a.m. PST

No, Jcfrog, they're going on vacation to Ukraine…

ScoutJock07 May 2015 10:08 a.m. PST

The CIA paid some kid in Silicon Valley to hack into its state of the art operating system and itake it down. The parade officials called Cupertino who told them, "Did you try a soft reboot?" They did and off it went.

That's my story and I,m sticking to it!

cwlinsj07 May 2015 10:46 a.m. PST

It didnt break down on parade, it stopped during rehearsals.

Unless it is an obvious "fix", I doubt that tank will be at the actual parade.

Brand new "bleeding edge" tech. Stuff breaks, often at the most inconvenient place and/or time. Murphy's Law strikes again.

They are going, as volunteers, to fight for the defense of Novorossya…
Well… It depends whose propaganda you believe/ hear.
Remember Menachem Begin, terrorist or resistance fighters, depends on who wins, who writes history and later interests.

Murphy's Law plays no favorites. And the newer the tech, the more likely it breaks. Kinda embarrassing, but, crap (or words to that effect) happens…. (They don't call it 'bleeding edge technology' for nothin'!)

Rich Bliss07 May 2015 11:01 a.m. PST

Ah yes, another victim of Russia's "Quality Culture"

GeoffQRF07 May 2015 12:24 p.m. PST

They are reporting this as driver error (stalled) – a technician got in and restarted it, then drove it away.

But it was also reported to have broken down twice previously.

Hmmm, I wonder if they'll just sweep this under the rug, or if the CIA/America will be blamed for it?

I'd hate to be the maintenance crew in charge of that. No doubt, they are now on Putin's enemies list, and that is frequently fatal.

The correct term in the Soviet, oops, RUSSIAN (showing my age) military is being "sent to count trees".

before anyone gets to cocky :D

I recall a system I designed with a good friend back in the 80s. We had it working fine. Showed it to the user and it crapped out. Then we couldn't repeat the error. This went on several times over a couple months. Finally we found a snippet in an IBM manual that said something we were doing had unpredictable consequences. That meant it worked 99.9 % of the time but if you were showing it to a big shot the storage area was set to binary zeroes. We changed how we did the thing and the problem went away. I feel their pain.

vtsaogames- Oh, does that sound SO familiar. I'm having flashbacks of flubbed demos, even as I type….

Be careful not to cast the stones since our F-35 project has one issue after another.

Mako1109 May 2015 5:17 p.m. PST

Nyet, comrade.

The F-35 Coot is the bestest, most effective, "air superiority" fighter ever built, and bound to be the most expensive shortly, once the marketing department gets to add on all those planned cost-overruns to the project.

Full operational capability is now tentatively schedule for 2030, or so, assuming no further delays.

They worked fine and looked good in the actual parade. I did hear they had an engine fire in one vehicle, but it wasn't seen. The self propelled gun version of the new tank was quite impressive looking. They also ran some old WWII T-34s. Quite cool, though I wish they still had a T-35. That would have been something.

Oops !!!! huh?

EJNashIII10 May 2015 9:25 a.m. PST

It appears the fire was actually in a smaller parade in a different city, Chita. A Buk rocket launcher vehicle. Looks like the one in Moscow went flawlessly.

Barin110 May 2015 1:14 p.m. PST

I was hoping they'll put more wwii tanks on parade, especially as Kubinka museum stuff hinted this several months ago…I guess tjey've decidef that you can't rely on 70 y.o.engine to run with 100% guarantee..
Knowing that lots of you folks in the west will be happy if the parade got stuck right at the beginning…
You know, this rehearsal accident got two separate topics and mentioning in othet two right on this board ;)
