Which is the closer size to being correct
1/75 Length: Approx. 57-64mm, Width: Approx. 21mm Height: Approx.16mm
or
1/100 Size (LxWxH): Approx. 50x18x12mm

Does not look like a lot of difference to me.

1/75 is close to the generally accepted scale for "20mm" size figures.

1/100 is the generally accepted scale for "15mm" size figures

Does not look like a lot of difference to me.

??? It's about a 25% difference!

Of course, that assumes that the models you are measuring are of exactly the same subject and that the quoted scales are accurate …

MajorB05 May 2015 10:46 a.m. PST

Or to put it another way.

57mm at a scale of 1/75 equates to a full size dimension of 4.275m

whereas

50mm at a scale of 1/100 equates to a full size dimension of 5m.

That's a difference of 72.5cm

I played games at cons with 15/18mm miniatures. The vehicles used were Hot Wheels and/or Matchbox. Every once in a while I see Hot Wheels on cut-out at the grocery or department store and I'll pick up one of two that look about right. I'm not sure whether they actually have standard scales or whether they are sized to fit the packaging display cards. Bottom line is that I just buy the ones that look about right.

There are the 1/87 bulk car packs on Ebay from the Asian sellers. 1/87 is a nice spot between the two scales. The cars are cheap and look great weathered/wrecked.

I was looking at bulk packs on ebay for a project. I was just not sure on how they would "scale" with the figures. some say these scales can be not true to actual size, so just trying to figure out which is more appropriate before I get started.

When you look at the height/width there is not much more then a few MM difference is why I ask.

At the price you get those packs at, not like you're out of pocket much if they don't work out.

I found some 1/87 kits that can be assembled which will probably work even better for what I have in mind.

For modern games, like zombies, where specific vehicles aren't made for them, I use 1/87 HO vehicles for model railroad layouts. They look great with the 15s and are close enough for government work.

The cheap 1:87/HO scale cars off eBay work fine.

Matchbox "scale" would only work for larger vehicles such as trucks which are at a smaller real scale compared to Matchbox sedans.

With 15mm figures a typical Matchbox sedan is around the dimensions of a Humvee.

I've posted this before on other, similar threads so apologies for those reading it one more time…

I own and use about 2 dozen Model Power Minis cars that can be purchased in RR modeling shops. They are 1:87, inexpensive and look good with 15mm minis. Also mentioned above, just search 1:87 on e-bay and you'll find all kinds of similar stuff.

Timecast has done some.

AFAIK Majorette models are 1/100 scale, most of the canvas tilted trucks are suitable for military repaint, so others should be OK for civilian stuff. No cars I'm afraid.

I buy 1/87 railway models for WWII cars by Brekina, Herpa and Wiking. A bit pricey but you can get them fairly cheap if you're patient and shop around.
