While building momentum and armies for DBA 3.0 I decided to refurbish an old Sassanid collection. This was originally a DBM army painted at least 10 years ago and since then my painting style and skills have changed.

I use now more colour combinations many of which reach a primary scale as far as intensity, while in the past I used pastels.

The revised army list prompted further research for which I purchased a number of books. I am also grateful for the additional titles from Fanatici Doug Melville, these can be fount in the comments section.

At the end of the week, I will add to the blog nomadic horse archers and mercenary infantry.

Cheers,
Robert

Thanks, that is very interesting stuff! Did you come across many references to the Sogdians while reading about Sassanians?

Skeptic,

I focused on the rise of Ardashir I which kept me busy with his campaigns against Parthia and Parthian held Armenia.

I shall certainly come across them as I continue my Sassanid activity with Shapur I who pushed the borders of the empire eastward.

Nice upgrades!

Perhaps when I get mine finished (4 elements of levy awaiting stain and varnish, cats, asavaran, lights, elephants, and more levy primed and in progress) I can get some pics up.

Will be interesting as one of the elephants and some of the half armored horses were picked up already painted – nice, but not quite my style. May try to complete one of the three armies as best I can to match.
