I've never understood why people say you cannot wargame or discuss a wargame without politics. I play Napoleonics a lot with my dad. He is a wealth of knowledge on the period, we have discussed why certain things happened but we've never actually discussed the politics of the period to any great degree nor had need to look into it regards playing a game, and never when we have had to discuss it in a game. We put the model soldiers down on the table and play – we don't agonize over why they are fighting or even contemplate it – we know both forces fought each other, end of, put out our armies and see who can beat the other by skill and help from lady luck – what else is a warGAME? Yes if you are looking to do an exact historical re-enactment as a game where X of army Y will do Z because of such and such then you are not having a GAME, you are just playing out exactly what happened and why, which negates the need for dice or rules. You can simply say ok, well until they got charged by the light cavalry unit 1 wiped out unit 2 and forced unit 3 to withdraw – this happened 30 mins into the battle, so we'll say that us turn 1 in game time. Just my opinion of course. |

Sorry, WS/OFM, but others on the right do get DH'd too, so your premise is just wrong. |

Yes. Run the numbers. A right winger REALLY has to cross the line to get the hook. A lefty merely has to poke his nose over to get slapped. "My side is right, so I am only telling the truth! Nothing 'political' about it!" |

Maybe we can do a test run? We'll open a free-fire zone for politics where absolutely everything goes. However, as it's a test run, it must be strictly limited to local Namibian politics. If the experiment works well after a trial period of 10 years or so, we can expand it to other countries. |

Just remember that incorrect political opinions lead to poor dice rolls. |

The problem is few people can really debate. They know how to scream and insult and rant and name call, They have that mastered … too bad they don't put their time to a better use… |

I suspected the in the days of stifles most were caused by political views. |

And you can still stifle people. |

>>I suspected the in the days of stifles most were caused by political views. I agree. I used to keep an eye on my stifle count out of curiosity. I never racked up that many, but I could usually make an educated guess what brought them on when they did appear. The majority of mine occurred after I made some statement that could be considered of a political nature. Most of the rest popped up when I griped about trolling on the site. (I probably still get them for that reason, but I no longer know when it occurs) But a handful of them, I honestly have no clue how they occurred. Martin |

Modern warfare is political and religious. Recent warfare, ditto that. Discussion of cause and effect is therefore impossible without discussions of religio-political motivation and agendas. If we had even one TMPer who was a wargaming Muslim Jihadist, made this known to the community, and proceeded to advocate for game scenarios from the Jihadist-centric pov, all ya all would see the fallacious quality of the "no religion no politics discussion" rool…. |

What political or religious discussions must we discuss in the following cases: TO&E of a modern British army platoon. The correct way to model suppressing fire in skirmish wargaming. How to model the reload speed of different tanks in the modern era. Armour penetration of various low calibre weapons against helicopters in vietnam. Accuracy of the SA2 vs different models of jet. Whether wargame rules should include mechanics for casualty recovery. Should reaction fire be automatic or something that the player actively declares as an action. Points systems vs scenarios. etc.etc.etc. There are a million wargaming topics that can be discussed without politics coming into it and a very small number of gaming topics that require it. |

I religiously follow the rule to never discuss religion … Amen !!!!! |
