SPOILER ALERT

Anyway, Arya is now in the House of Black and White in Braavos. As a change from the books Jaqen H'ghar (yes, I had to Google to get the correct spelling…) is the Kindly Man.
Interestingly, last week he told Arya "There is only one God, and a girl knows his name."
When is the last time we heard that? Syrio Forel! Who many speculate is really Jaqen H'ghar.
And who was the last person we saw Syrio with? Ser Meryn Trant. And who is on Arya's shortened hit list? Ser Meryn.

Cersei is sending Lord Oaf Tyrell to Braavos to pull a Donald Trump (Too big to fail!) on the Iron Bank. Guess who his bodyguard will be? Ser Meryn.

So, here is my theory. Season 5 will be "The Starks strike back."
Jon Snow has already beheaded one slimeball.
Sansa is heading for a Bolton showdown, with hopefully some more Freys on hand than Fat Walda. (That's her name in the books, so don't call me weight-ist!) Hints of a massacre.
Arya + Ser Meryn + Needle = ?

Hopefully there will be a lot more feel good happy moments for Stark supporters this season.

The North remembers.

John the OFM04 May 2015 7:19 a.m. PST

Unless of course the showrunners decide to kill off Arya and Sansa.

Sajiro04 May 2015 7:36 a.m. PST

I like that crack pot theory a lot and I'm going to spread that around my small circle of Wsteros fans here…..except for the part about happy feel good moments for the Starks. Pfft, Northerners.

Did you see Littlefinger's face when Sansa was talking about how her aunt was 'abducted'? I think there's more to the rebellion than a mad king.

The Beast Rampant04 May 2015 7:39 a.m. PST

I haven't seen the latest episode yet, out of respect for my guest, as "Tacos with a Targaryen" night had to be cancelled.

Until then, I am SO not reading the above text.

wminsing04 May 2015 7:51 a.m. PST

Spoiler Alert:
In the books, we know this doesn't work. BUT given we know the show is deviating from the books, I think this idea could definitely work out….

@ John, your concern over the events of page 111… Since Val has yet to be introduced, I dont believe that event will take place. I hope Im wrong because it sets up a wonderful plot twist. I was surprised to see the crypts of Winterfel again as I was convinced the show would take John Snow's parentage as explained on pg 150. Now I have doubts:
many, many doubts.
Theyve eliminated so many subplots that Im unsure the series will go 7, let alone the 10 seasons Hbo has mentioned.
ymmv,
RC

Did you see Littlefinger's face when Sansa was talking about how her aunt was 'abducted'?

Probably the same look on his face when Arya was serving as Tywin's cup bearer in season 2. grin
"I know things that you do not."

John the OFM04 May 2015 8:09 a.m. PST

I reference page 111 in the hardback. I have no idea what 111 in the paperback may be.
I think Val subplot is out. But not Jon's last scene in Book 5.

I am glad to see a lot of suffering 4 chapter journeys seem to have been thrown under the bus.

Lou from BSM04 May 2015 9:38 a.m. PST

I always wondered what had happened to Syrio… he just kind of disappeared after he told Arya to run. I like the possibilities you propose (Jaqen = Syrio)… a man can only wonder

Here is a go-to site for crackpot Fame of Thrones theories.
It was started before the HBO series took off, so it concentrates on the books.

Jaqen = Syrio

Would make me happy. He was a cool character and, like so many GRRM characters, discarded needlessly.

saltflats192904 May 2015 10:54 a.m. PST

GRRM does kill a lot of characters- but he doesn't kill a lot "off camera" so it is possible.
In books 4 & 5 he kills off most characters through neglect.

Bandolier04 May 2015 3:12 p.m. PST

I agree with wminsing. The books rule out the Jaqen = Syrio theory but would be interesting if the show creators go there.

I have also wondered if Syrio is really dead.
I like to think not.

Loved your theories John!!! (smile)

What about: "You don't now nothing John Snow!"??
He became to be an "stone" man?. So hight was his love?. Impossible to resist THAT !(smile). But really, which was the purpose of that "move" by that witch?. She is only a "horny" witch?
I don't buyed that.

Barateon… each chapter I like him more!. Pleaseee… don't kill him!!

Question: So easy was to capture a noble in Kingslanding by a bunch of religious fanatics? . Tyrell son have not even a bodyguard? Mmmm….

What happened with Kaleese guards?.
Again, a group of "nobles" with knives killed a whole patrol of "Inmortals" who fight since day one of their lives?. The second sons also dead as silly drunks in a bar?

Ah!. About Sansa and Littlefinger… imho I understand that the Targarians were really good people and not the gang of horrible murderers the history present about them. (??)

Aerys earned his title "Tha Mad King " the hard way, through hard work. He was bad.
His son Rhaegar was by all accounts in the books a fine heir and would have made a splendid king. Unfortunately he made off with Ned's sister. I believe she ran off with him because she lnew what it would be like to be married to Robert. He would have gotten bored with her. He was in love with her memory. Ask Cersei what it's like to be married to a bored Robert.

Anyway, regarding the above, R + L = J.

Loras Tyrell is a badass fighter. He has no need of a bodyguard.

Winston Smith04 May 2015 4:26 p.m. PST

Melisandre senses that Jon is of high Royal blood. That is what she is after.

The Unsullied were also fighting with spears in a crowded room. Dumb.
That is probably a metaphor for "nation building".

Tango0104 May 2015 9:13 p.m. PST

Thanks Winston! (smile)

Do you like Barateon like John?

What about sex between Littlefinger and Sansa in the books?

Unless Jon is the fruit of a secret marriage between R and J (the Targs had no problem with bigamy), Stannis is the rightful king.

No sex in the books between Littlefinger and Sansa. However HBO has left her book story far behind. Besides, that would be icky.

OK, just watched it.

As a change from the books Jaqen H'ghar is the Kindly Man.

In the books, who's to say he doesn't turn out to be both?

I am still a bit put off with the series not giving any lip service to the "little war" against the Freys. I liked the notion that Old Walder was Tywin's cut-out man, who did the (really) dirty work, and whose kin were left to dangle when Thoros etc. came for revenge. They should come back to that at SOME point.

Leaving out Stoneheart would seem to make sense, if for no other reason than I think it would make the 20th Level clerical spell "Resurrection" seem passe before it was over with (What would be the point of bringing her back anyway? Really? Didn't you guys ever read "Pet Sematary"?). I can only assume that before it's over with, the Red Priestess will roll double crits, and John will have fulfilled the terms of his contractual duties to the Watch.

And I'd much rather see Greyjoys than the damned Sand Snakes. Have they really been left on the cutting room floor?

The Series has made some enlightened lightning cuts (I never thought we'd outrun the entirety of the five books THIS season, but it's beginning to look that way), but I still feel they are leaving to many dangling threads and characters. The last two seasons have not been as tight as the previous ones. But I suppose, given the source material…

Besides, that would be icky.

We're rolling on five seasons of icky. grin

Not going to happen.

I like to think not.

Even if dead, Martin now resurrects characters randomly. Soap opera.
