My first miniatures were Napoleonic British. Looking into it I went for the stovepipes, as they could be used throughout the Peninsula. The Belgic shako, on the other hand, appears only at QB/Waterloo. So I was fascinated to note how many people collect British for, essentially, one battle. Do you own any armies that only ever fired one shot in anger, so to speak? (For myself, I'm not picky, so my troops have seen service in Belgium…) |

My ACW ironclads are for the Battle of Plum Point bend. They can also be used for Memphis so not quite for one battle but two. |

Those Waterloo British could also see service in the War of 1812. |

The Grenadiers of the Supreme Power and the Tulancingo Cuirassiers (both of which I have) kind of fall into this category – as do the French contra-guerillas from Maximillian's adventure (which I also have) gisby.info/maxcontra.htm |

Mark, I have 6mm Waterloo era Brits and French that have only seen the table once, and 6mm Austrians that have never seen battle…so to speak. |

The Zulu's fought in a good number of battles. If you have them singly based you can take out any one with a firearm and do some of Shaka's wars of conquest, plus all the battles in the Zulu war. |

I've wanted some ww2 Danes for a while, to play what must account to half of a battle. |

My Sudan forces include a unit of Post Office Rifles in their distinctive uniform. Even though only a small detatchment ever served in Egypt, an they only came under fire once. I am not sure that they wore anything other than the standard uniform while on deployment either. |

For my ACW I used the orders of battle for (morning) day 1 of Gettysburg. Not because I wanted to do that battle but because the orders of battle were easy to find and the forces were fairly equal (just needed to add bit of CSA cav). I just used it as a guide to create two forces. |

I have two "no-shot" armies. A huge Zulu Army (500+ figures) and a huge Mongol Army (300 figures all mounted and most of them converted so no two figures are alike, in 25 mm. Ral Parthas. Never used in battle, painted a decade ago. |

I'm building up a Wayne's Legion of the United States force, which is good for exactly one major historical battle: Fallen Timbers. They had a few other skirmishes where up to a few hundred of them burned powder for real. Fortunately, the Legion uniform only differs in detail from what the US Army wore for several years previously, so if you squint a little, can proxy in for regulars and levies at Harmer's Defeat and St. Clair's Massacre. Also some can pass for AWI or even War of 1812 militia. |
