I am rather bemused. I wanted to try some Old Glory 15mm miniatures and bought a battalion of 50 old guard grenadiers. The bases are so tiny and uneven that of those 50 only 8 can be stood up. The definition is poor in comparison with the Eureka miniatures I normally get. I seem to have bought rubbish. Is this the same Old Glory company that I had always heard did good models? I have never heard of "Timecast" before now.

Timecast IMHO are one of the most decent firms in the business and have been going for a long time.

Contact them.

Any problems I've had, and there are precious few, have been sorted immediately.

I agree with Fat Wally. They really are the best guys to deal with and I am sure they will sort out any issues you have. The problems are unfortunately with the USA manufacturers.

Is it then that Old Glory USA are different to Old Glory UK? These really do seem to be very poor figures. The bases are tiny, there seems no point in painting figures that cannot physically be stood up. I shall write to Timecast though.

I just looked in the Manufacturers Directory. Timecast appears to be a UK agent for Old Glory. There are no photos of the figures on the website however. So it does appear that you did indeed buy real Old Glory 15mm figures.

OG 15mm figures are, in general, a little rough IMHO. And the fact that not all the figures stand up without preparation is pretty common IMHO. A little file-work on the bases should get them in shape.

Damon.

I think that there are a number of sculptors involved and some figures are great while others are dismal even within the same range.

nnascati is right that Timecast are importers for Old Glory 15 which are now all manufactured in the USA. They are also bagged in the USA which can be a problem sometimes.

Get on to Timecast is the best.

Old Glory UK is different to the Old Glory at Timecast. Old Glory UK do their own stuff I believe

Most folks base their Miniatures rather than rely on an integral base.

In fact, off the top of my head I can't think of any recent Miniatures that come with bases meant not to be glued to actual bases.

Old Glory "bases" almost always need to be filed down in order for the figure to stand up. I've found that to be true with almost all metal figures though.

Tomsurbiton02 May 2015 10:44 p.m. PST

I did get a pack of cavalry in the same order; with filing the horses do all stand. But the bases of the infantry figures are so tiny that it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to glue them to bases.

Try 2-part epoxy rather than superglue. As for the confusing array of Old Glorys, there are two US firms – Old Glory 15s (whose UK stockist is Timecast) and Old Glory 25s (who confusingly also have some 15mm and 18mm ranges nowadays, and whose UK stockist is Old Glory UK, although Old Glory UK now also have a couple of lines that they produce themselves….) So Old Glory UK is unrelated to Old Glory 15s, but frankly the whole thing's a bit confusing….

It is always pot luck with Old Glory 15mm. I had a bag of Austrian Infantry(7YW) once that contained 37 command figures and 13 guys with muskets. The dealer I purchased it from(Prior to Time Cast) changed it, apparently Old Glory 15mm were a nightmare!!

Quality of the casting are not as good as they used to be, now try to buy second hand if I can

They are nice figures and no problem with basing them.

Bellbottom04 May 2015 2:46 p.m. PST

I haven't had any problems with Old Glory UK figures, the castings are fine. The only 15mm I bought from Timecast were EIR command, which had a strange mix of figure proportions. When I queried this they fixed it without p.roblems
