Hi All

Well, I've taken the plunge and started a big new project focussed on playing Warhammer 3rd edition in 15mm. I've set up a blog to chart my efforts here: oldhammer15.blogspot.co.uk

There's not a huge amount of content yet, just three posts of ramblings, but I have some figures on the painting table all lined up to start.

So please check it out if you are interested. If you are on Twitter I'll also be posting updates there under @oldhammer15, so give me a follow if you are so inclined.

I'm hoping this will be a lot of fun!

good luck with your new project. Why did you decide to do 15mm?

Fishbuckle02 May 2015 12:06 p.m. PST

Mostly because I am reducing the amount of gaming I do in larger scales. I can do a lot more for my money in 15mm too!

Good start and good idea. Will follow with interest.

Not so much a gamer nowadays but I was drawn to 15mm for mass battle fantasy decades ago after getting fed up with the abstraction of HOTT. WHF is as good a place to start as any but there seems to be a large amount of slicker systems for this type of game around now. Just add your own flavour be that WHF world or otherwise.

Hi! Thanks for your interest! Funnily enough, that is similar to my reason, although I am not really 'fed up' with HOTT, I just sometimes want more variety in my fantasy games.

I understand what you are saying about WHFB, but is is the clunkiness and nostalgia element that are a big part of why I am doing this. (You can remind me I said this when I pack the whole thing in for Kings of War or something. Haha)

Welcome to the world of 15mm Fantasy, I love the scale for mass battle and have quite a large collection myself.

I am using Kings of War as the rules, they work very well.

Good luck and I will be following your progress.

And there's Frostie tempting/teasing you away from WHFB already!

Totally get the nostalgia thing. I was going to try A Fistful of Lead! But on second thoughts I might try something more current – Mayhem?

How do you plan on basing the figures? I've used pennies for 15mm skirmish games but for ranked units at this scale I've only ever used DBA style basing. Also, are you going to keep move distances the same or lower them to scale?

Fishbuckle06 May 2015 2:52 p.m. PST

Hi Bob. At the moment I plan on basically halving the Warhammer base sizes. In part it means I'd still fit 4 human sized figures on a 40mm frontage for DBA/HOTT. All measurements I'd make in cm instead of inches. If/when I'd need templates I'd halve the size.

This is all provisional at the moment though!
