How excited are people with the news that battlefront fow are doing the Cold War this year?

Room for more 15mm Cold War companies?

VonTed19 Apr 2015 4:19 a.m. PST

Very excited, and I hope so.

Tgunner19 Apr 2015 5:33 a.m. PST

Why not? Battlefront's miniatures tend to be expensive and the quality varies. Minis sold at a reasonable price with good details will sell. I'm waiting to see what BF offers before I start my serious buying for this project. But I could be tempted to jump in early with a company I know…

Krieger19 Apr 2015 5:37 a.m. PST

All pluses! Cold war is getting the attention it deserves. Hopefully though the cottage industries will try and focus on the things that battlefront won't, like the swedes.. ;)

I've noticed that several companies have seen a resurgence of cold war focus, so choosing a ruleset will be hard.

charles popp19 Apr 2015 5:50 a.m. PST

I will try to get people into it just want to see how they handle stuff like ATGM and Overwatch and Helios. Plus A-10 runs. I would be interested esp if they so NATO south

Mako1119 Apr 2015 6:13 a.m. PST

I'm certainly looking forward to it.

PSADennis19 Apr 2015 7:16 a.m. PST

Armies it's around a 12 on 10 scale for me. I know many gamers in my area are buying and painting miniatures in anticipation for the Battlefront release including me. Personally I have spent a small fortune on miniatures from different manufactures and look forward to adding new units when Battlefront has product available.
We played a game at my LGS using a list from Tour of Duty and a couple lists from Fate of a Nation yesterday and we all had a great time.
If your looking for any advise on whether to join the fray or not I would say YES YES YES. Many gamers do not use a single source for miniatures and as a result Cold War Gone Hot will be a plus to any manufacture that produces quality miniatures for the era.
That's my 2 cents.

Couldn't care less, well maybe less enough to not even post here.

Am excited about this new venture in FOW, though i await the arrival of all their Brown Water Navy stuff first. Will definitely acquire the rulebook though.

charles popp19 Apr 2015 11:00 a.m. PST

Keel me too I love the Brown water stuff. I was a fan from the first time I saw Apocolypce Now. Something about it just made me want to play out the situations.

I'm still waiting for your 1970s/1980s Swedes, AA! And VDV to face off against them.

I really want to run a T64 and BMP force for Soviets in Germany.

Mr Elmo19 Apr 2015 2:25 p.m. PST

I'll check it out when it's available. BF is king of BIGSEXYTANKS so it should be good.

raylev319 Apr 2015 5:51 p.m. PST

Looking forward to it.

Tgunner19 Apr 2015 6:03 p.m. PST

I like the Vietnam rules that they put out, and the WWI rules look solid. The only really botch-up I know about was some of the Arab-Israeli stuff and the British early war armoured regiments. The rest of their work, to me, has been great.

Cross your fingers Kyote!

D A THB19 Apr 2015 10:03 p.m. PST

I could be interested in the books as I already have a few Eastern and European buildings in 15mm. I was thinking of doing it in 20mm but may rethink this.

MWright20 Apr 2015 2:53 a.m. PST

I already play Cold War in Micro using the excellent Fistful of TOWs 3. Excellent for large scale gaming with say a Brigade of NATO.

Cosmic Reset20 Apr 2015 4:50 a.m. PST

As a long time Cold War gamer, I am happy to see that they are bringing out the line. I am hoping that it motivates other manufacturers to produce Cold War products that aren't currently available. Unfortunately, the cost of their products has pretty much killed Battlefront/FOW at the local hobby shop, so I won't likely see much impact in the local gaming community. As far as the product line itself, I will mostly avoid it due to quality control issues and pricing, maybe picking up some infantry if not available elsewhere.

I'm reworking my cold war entry somewhat due to well costs, however I can say Ill be entering into the market, however with a smaller 'entrance' level footprint. That is Ill do one force (one of the ones mentioned) and see how well they do.

Krieger20 Apr 2015 6:38 a.m. PST

Here's hoping it's swedes, even if I know it's probably not..

MaahisKuningas9020 Apr 2015 7:03 a.m. PST

Quite ironicaly, I do find battlefronts products, especially new generation of models (FoAN tanks and figures – holy hell!) being very well in cost/quality scale. If you live outside UK or US, it quite soon falls into that, as mainland-europe manufacturers/retailers arent that common.

And yes, eventho I have found FOW rules less satisfying, their models are the thing Im going to have a good look at – especially if T-72M1 is produced. And plastic BTRs or BMPs!

What comes to rules, at the very moment I am using force on force for smaller encounters, and as Ironfist Publishing announced "Battlegroup NORTHAG" I am propably going to go with it, as I liked their WW2 ruleset quite entertaining and accessible.

Cujoman20 Apr 2015 12:03 p.m. PST

I'm in for Cold war Finns and Swedes, most preferably with infantry though.

AA: Great to hear, and I'm sure there's a niche market to be found in the nordics.

I for one would order a company for sure. If nothing else to support the initiative! We need someone to do danish, finnish and norwegian troops ;)

Dennis030220 Apr 2015 6:49 p.m. PST

Keith,
There is room for a lot of 15mm stuff both infantry and armor. I'm looking forward to both main and minor infantry on both sides.
Hope you jump into this. You made terrific sci fi infantry.
