no, they seem to be (to me) private drinking establishments. I rarely drink alcohol and cannot discus my service activities. So… no. |

Same here: while I contribute to The American Legion and VFW I don't belong and have never had the desire to do so. Retired, USN, 24 years. |

Recently joined DAV to Help with a 3 yr. old Claim at the VA Admin. Many fauls with the Dr involved and finally got some of it approved. I'm appealing that one ,but it's been a year |

I'm appealing that one ,but it's been a year Trie VFW back in '70 but yeah it was a drinking club not to friendly to 'Nam vets I know all that's changed but I'm not much of a joiner. |

One of my old units has an on-line presence and I belong to that. Not sure that counts Good place to swap lies about 'the good old days' Like Ravenscraft, can't really discuss my active service with many people, so it's an outlet |

I was in the military, but now I care for Vets in a healthcare setting (not VA but private) and I love them all. Some of them are crazy as bat but a lot of fun to talk to. |

I joined the VFW in the 70's in PA to drink on Sundays thanks to Blue Laws but I outgrew the desire fairly quickly and haven't gone back. |

Lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. They got me my 100% disability rating years ago (up from the 10% the V.A. gave me)and am forever grateful to them for that and honored to be a member… |

Life member VFW – joined 2002 – not too involved because of traveling distance. Life member Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) joined 2003 – go to meetings once every couple of months – because of traveling distance. |

I'm a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, however recently it is not a requirement to have been in the military to join. |

I'm a member of VFW, but like others, I haven't been in years. |

Not a member of any Veteran's group just because I view my time in the Services as a 'break in continuity' of my personal life and a prelude to civilian federal employment. I was proud to have served but don't see those years as linked to my life currently. |

Life member and active of both VFW and American Legion. Became active in the early eighties with my Dad. He was a WW2 Veteran, I am a Vietnam Veteran. Was glad to have been able to serve with him in both organizations. Both Post I work in today are dry Post. We are active in the community and participate in the organizations programs, but we do not have a Post Home. We meet at the Community Park. Thus we do not have to deal with the so called bar image and its problems. I would encourage all eligible Veteran's to get involved. |

I was asked to leave the American Legion hall in Anniston, Alabama, in August 1970 because "We don't want no damn dirty Veet Nam drug addicts in here". That told me all I needed to know. LT |

Sorry to hear about your bad experience brass 1. Vietnam Veterans often had to fight two battles. One in Vietnam and one when they returned home. The second one was often the hardest. I have been a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion since I returned home in 1969. |

sorry to be so late in responding to your posts and thanking you. your answers reflected what i expected considering time and place. i never joined a group, nor did my WWII veteran father. he didnt drink and i dont need to be in that environment. i want to reunite. as LAP1954 mentioned, two of our local organizations are very community.youth and veteran service oriented. with my physical limitations, retirement, and fixed income, i hesitate to join. if i cannot be a productive, help and contribute, there is no reason. |

I never thought about it, I would feel funny since, I never actually was deployed, always on standby. |
