What does Guy Debord, Marxist theorist, avante-garde filmmaker, and founding member of the Situationalist International have to do with games with toy soldiers? Have a look at the Class Wargames website to find out. You might be surprised at who and what you find there.

Can someone dumb it down for me?

See Gary Mitchell's comment on the home page, Fergal.

Tried to read it several years ago. Gave up on it. Games and ideology do not mix well. Results in bad ideology, and even worse, bad games.

What a bunch of ludics.

You worked hard for something. Now give it to me.

Gawd, griping about politics is for the wash up AFTER the game over cigars and port. Games to make a political point? Not smart….

Perhaps this one is best left for the Blue Fez?

I'm only not commenting here so I don't get dawghoused.

Jack Radey is smiling somewhere.

its kind of painful and overwrought to read (and I say that as a red) but they saw something they wanted to make and they made it. More people should do that.

I'm sure they're having fun.

Surely the language used was a joke? Absent a few moments of that special college freshman blend of pomposity and shear youthful idiocy meets faux altruism, nobody actually talks like that?

Weasel17 Apr 2015 4:20 p.m. PST

I've met lefties who talk like that, though they tend to be college types with too much spare time on their hands and not enough time getting their hands dirty with actual organizing, activism or union work.

Ah, Situationism, that takes me back. There is if course the outside possibility that it isn't 100% serious, particularly as I recognise some of the people in the photos:)

Besides, the very nature of wargaming is anathema to globalised neoliberal mass consumerism, because we:

a. do it ourselves
b. keep the same tatty old figures and terrain for 20,30, 40 years….

But until the revolution comes, Demand the Impossible!

I couldn't help noticing how much Richard Barbrook resembles the character Lonely from the Callan TV series. But if they ever wanted to do a remake Andy Serkis would have to get the part; he's a dead ringer for Russell Hunter.

RCW gamers who use CLA might want to take a look at the rules for the Reds v Reds game. It's just the relevant bits of CLA, but it does include game ratings for some RCW troop types that aren't in the BoB supplement.
