Worth taking a look, if you are a fan, or foe of the Mig-29 Fulcrum: link Some useful insight into its limitations and capabilities. Wish I'd been able to purchase one from the Luftwaffe for 1 Euro each. I would have bought a squadron. So, looks like for those hypothetical Baltics scenarios, you can pit Russian built Mig-29s vs. other Russian aircraft. With their upgrades, they just might be capable of dancing in the skies with those nice, big, Russian Sukhoi fighters, that usually come out on top in battles between the two (at least over Africa – though to be fair, those probably don't have Western upgrades). |

To dance with a Sukhoi, or any modern western fighter, the Fulcrum would have to run the BVR gauntlet first. I don't think many would survive that. |

Depends upon the rules of engagement. I think most of the battle over the African continent were WVR, though the Sukhois ended up winning every time. |
