Can anyone confirm for me if the 24th mechanized Infantry Division was still in Forest Green, or MRDEC around 1984? |

Theoretically, most units converted to MERDC in the mid-1970s, so I would suspect that, unless they got the new M1 tanks and Bradleys, which supposedly were issued in the plain Forest Green. I think a bit later, they converted to the NATO tri-color schemes, like in 1985, or 1986. Don't hold me to that, but that's what I seem to recall reading from a number of sources. |

We (6th Cav Brigade Air Combat) worked with a brigade of the 24th Mech in Egypt during Bright Star 83. Their armored vehicles were MERDC Red Desert IIRC. They were an RDF unit with a Middle East contingency so I don't know if they kept that scheme when they returned to Ft Stewart or not. |
