(Sorry for the terrible title)

My Makedonian pikemen are mostly from Foundry. They have two poses, standing and charging with the pike straight ahead. I think that the standing pose is boring, but the charging is not practical.

But Warlord has some plastic pikemen that are advancing, 4 different poses. Are they good? Is the pikes in the way?

How do you prefer your pikemen? Standing, advancing, charging?

Advancing.

Advancing and some standing.
The Warlord plastic pikemen are wonderful and easy to assemble.
Just finished 128,

Nice looking pikes!

I preferred the 45 degree angle and upright.
I played WRG Ancients with 4 on a base and to me lee the stands had to be in contact.
That's difficult with leveled pikes.

Well done on those phalanxes. I have some old Minifig levelled pikes that are now in reserve, with 75mm spacers underneath the pikes so that they can actually be used in extremis.

I go for boring I am afraid – upright, even 45 degrees can cause problems on the table.

Not Makedonians, but I based up an element of Two Dragons Kneeling Normans with spears extended. No one can get withing arms reach of them from the front…

Standing, pike upright; The Foundry pike in this pose are beautiful figures and perfect for wargaming.

Cost aside, the Foundry Macedonians are stunning models and easy to paint. Alexander himself ONLY used Foundry miniatures. :)

I prefer angled pikes- but transportation is a problem unless they can stay upright. Upright pikes are easy to pack, but boring.

I think the Warlord pikes are very good-- but I'm not sure if they will last out here in the desert. We will see. Their butt spikes are too thick, but aren't everybody's?

I have had few problem with Old Glory pikes and games-- their angle is perfect -- like the old Ral Partha's….

Here OG pikes have no problem engaging Don Manser's Foundry upright figures..

Hopefully I will finish my plastic phalanx in this lifetime… maybe the Megalopolis campaign will motivate me.

Upright all the way. It just makes things a lot easier.

For me, no levelled pikes. Only upright or 45 degree advancing.

At some point will need to buy some 20 packs of the Foundry pikemen – lovely figures.
