Now I have got the prototypes, glued them together (head and body, very simple), and painted one of them!
Remember this prototype was used printed in a low resolution printer, so you can actually see the edges between the different layers.
If/when I cast them they will be printed in a good high resolution printer!

His head's gone funny :-)

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Oh, that's just how I feel on any Monday morning. :-)

Very nice, If only they'd been 15mm instead of 28mm

If I wanted to be really objectively critical, ankles and hands look a little large? (Probably look fine in the hand though)

Bjorn Seleukos30 Mar 2015 2:49 a.m. PST

Thanks for the comment GeoffQRF, I will take a closer look at that.

GeoffQRF30 Mar 2015 3:08 a.m. PST

Not a lot, and I know casting limitations sometimes mean they need to be bigger/thicker (especially ankles) – as I say, it may look absolutely fine in the hand.

I should add, really nice figure!

I've resigned to the fact that appendages are going to be over sized in our hobby. To me the body looks perfectly fine. The head seems to not have formed correctly. But other than that, it is a fine looking model.

Very interesting project. Presumably the heads were separate parts? The ankles, though thick anatomically are probably about right for producing robust casts over time, I wouldn't be in a rush to change them.
From facebook I see you went with i.materialise for printing. What were they like? Do you have anywhere in mind for the high quality print? I'm also beginning to look around.

Bjorn Seleukos31 Mar 2015 12:06 a.m. PST

Yes, the heads are seperate. Menhir has sculpted 6 different heads (2 with Thessalian sun-hats, 1 Kausian, 3 bare-head).

I.Materialise was very good. They shipped faster than expected! Their interface is very easy to understand. The plastic is pretty good (I used Natural Grey. Why? Because Menhir told me to). The resolution is not so good, I suppose I could use it for my own collection, I you can't sell them or use them as masters.

I have, so far, not contacted anyone for making the masters, but I am looking at Maxmini (maxmini3d.eu), Timo Laumann (timolaumann.de), RN estudio or Zeolot. I don't know if I have missed anyone?

My first comment was meant as a joke!

I definitely want some of these!! 12 would be great with extra heads… I will wait and watch.. I need to add this to my page at AncientBattles.com!
