A Good-Looking Army in a Reasonable Amount of Time

Painting a wargaming army is a completely different beast from painting a single miniature for display.

Seriously?

Try showing that image to your friends at church and see if you get the same response. If the answer is no, then you shouldn't be putting it up here. As JT said, it's not a case of whether you can do it, and it only takes a tiny bit of common sense to decide if you should, and I am seriously shocked at your behaviour in thinking that portraying that sort of image is in any way appropriate on a website dealing with miniature wargames figures and trying to portray itself as a family friendly site.

We have more than enough controversy with glorification of war and grown men playing with you soldiers (not to mention all the others that you should put a stop to much earlier on) without putting out ammunition for criticism. Web hits here for that sort of image, is NOT what this site should be encouraging, and I really do not believe that you are so naive as to not be able to see that… and if you are, then I am seriously lost for words as to where you draw the line for what is acceptable and what is not, and it completely removes any moral high ground you have for commenting on the activities of a certain other websites, or individuals.

Geoff and John – sorry, no problem with the cat images for me. You have an issue, fine – I respect your ability to see offence there, but it is neutral for me. Not every picture of a girl I see is sexual to my mind – cats, young or any other combination. And although this is a miniatures page, that thread in particular was not focussed towards miniatures, and the homour of the posts/pics was evident to me.

Mind you, I don't go to church, so maybe that helps. But I know at least one of my friends who is a devout gawd believer who would find the cat pictures cute and fine. Sorry.

Marc, to make it clear, I don't find he images "offensive" and have never used that word in relation to them.

Earlier on in this thread, to quote myself, I said:

So, to make it clear, I don't "object" … I don't find it "offensive" in the slightest and I'm not suggesting Bill is a perv or anyone else who found the young lady attractive is one either.

So – not offensive to me: I have not – and do not – "see offence". What I did say, in effect, was that I found them to be "out of place".

It has been pointed out that the OP of the thread was not directly about wargaming and miniatures per se, I accept that, but the posting was made on a forum whose stated function is (and I quote from the current banner):

The Miniatures Page TM
A Web-magazine for Miniature Wargamers

I'm simply saying that I find the images at best incongruous, at worst inappropriate.

I thought I'd made that clear before, but…

Marc, you also said:

Mind you, I don't go to church, so maybe that helps.

Believe me, I cannot remember the last time I went to church. I am about as far from being a religious person as you could imagine and that certainly does not colour my views on cute, young women dressed as cats.

What tends to form my opinion is where they wear them or where pictures of them wearing them are posted.

Let's try this for another approach: would anyone (who goes to church*) see this as appropriate dress for tea with the vicar**?

I rather suspect some of the clergy I've met over the years would appreciate someone (indeed, anyone, of either sex) dressed like that popping in for tea.

John, you've got it right; "inappropriate" and "out of place" use of those pictures given the largely male, middle-aged demographic of the membership of this forum. But clearly Bill does not agree with that POV.

I've no complaints whatsoever about Camren, still waiting for Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeifer or Lee Meriwether (showing my age)… I like pictures of cute, attractive young women dressed as cats, but not when they LOOK about 12 years old – on a forum like this that IS borderline creepy.

it's some skeezy old dude behind a camera selling sex…

There's more diversity in the professional photography field than the wargaming hobby. Your stereotype doesn't hold true.

Try showing that image to your friends at church and see if you get the same response.

TMP isn't a church.

Why not? Civil War reenacting does seem popular here.

TMP isn't a church.

Allegedly it is a miniature wargames forum, but I think you need to be particularly obtuse if you can't see how civil war reenact ing relates to wargaming, and those images do not.

Geoff, I think we will have to just agree to disagree.

To me, it is just a cute picture. If someone finds it offensive, I really think it is their problem. As for whether it was appropriate, it was a silly picture on a silly topic.

How can a site like "Lead Adventure" get by without the drama and this site can't?

Even Lead Adventure isn't completely immune. While they're less prone to drama across a spectrum of periods they no longer have a moderns section for various drama-related reasons.

Then again, TMP doesn't have a modern wargaming section either. Tango runs his "Current Military Affairs" blog here but it's virtually futile trying to get a wargame discussion going here.

Stepman301 Apr 2015 1:24 p.m. PST

Holy cow…that's the first time I've ever visited the Ultra Modern board…Tango does have quite the blog going on over there. But none of it is original content. It's all cut and paste like all of his other posts…The Tango Show at it's finest…

GeoffQRF01 Apr 2015 3:23 p.m. PST

…at least it is relevant…
