So people like to take a stab at some of the worse elements of wargamer culture (bickering about companies, endless pedantry, uniform nazi's, actual nazi's etc.)

Then, I read some headlines and see how one of the developers of the next Mortal Kombat game had to stop using twitter because psychos were threatening his wife and daughter with rape, because they weren't happy with something in the game.

And I just have to step back and go "you know what? The fat dude who talks too much about coat buttons… he's not too bad".

You hear that? Uniform pedants and edition warriors and GW haters? You're okay.

Threatening rape? ye gods.

Everybody step back, take a deep breath, and regain a sense of proportion.

Poor social skills + inability to find legitimate affirmation + lack of positive parental attention = Internet troll.

Mostly, stuff like that is just a pathetic plea to be noticed and deny one's insignificance in the world.

Of course, a few are just plain mentally ill.

I'm thinking when you get to the point some people go, where you post photos of peoples homes, call in fake police reports and other insanity, it's pretty far along the mentally ill or needs some jail time spectrum.

Being a GW hater is bad??? Haven't you got that backwards?

Most trolls are 13 years old, or at least have the brains of a 9 year old. ;)

Actually internet trolls can be pretty bad business.

The gaming industry (computer and video games)

Has some very nasty folks, and yes threatening rape of women is not that uncommon.

With the whole "mens rights movment" alot of sik people in the gaming world has popped out their head.

Fortunately more and more people are tracking down these idiots, naming and shaming them, and even taking them to court. Perhaps that will eventually slow the rise of arseclownism that has become so prevalent.

Threatening rape is assault. Not trolling.

A troll doesn't offer to act himself. Trolls are provocateurs. They post controversial statements, enjoy the reaction, and when confronted with their behavior, claim nothing they said was controversial (evoking more reaction).

The best way to deal with a troll is ignore them.

The best way to deal with an assaulter is call the police.

Dear Weasel

Bets?

For a guy who'se been here since 2002 you apparently don't remember the old days when there was no Blue Fez or stringent editing.

It was a snake pit.

Otto – It was pretty brutal but I don't think anyone called SWAT teams to anyone's house or started stalking someone's family over their devotion to/criticism of Israel or whatever.

So you know.. hooray for the little things right?

Weasel

I guess you are right. Hooray for the little things.
