T-55, everybody's got one and they just keep on running. YouTube link Like the camo job. I'm amazed how many of these tanks are still out there and being used. |

Isn't it officially the most widely produced tank in history? I imagine those will keep rolling around for a long time coming :) |

It does seem to be quite a rugged design. |

Definitely needs a catalytic converter. |

Catalytic converter? It needs a flux capacitor. |

Nah, if you put either one of those on it, you'd probably adversely affect the fuel mileage rating, and might even void the manufacturer's warranty. |

I hope they took out the 50 year extended warranty :) |

You don't need a warranty, just a hammer. |

A friend of mine worked as "opfor" in the military and got to work on T55's. He said if you can repair a pickup truck, you have a pretty good chance of being able to get a T55 going again. |

I'm all in favor of "easy to get going again", but how interchangeable are the parts between various marks of T55s? I know you could pull parts from a Sherman built anywhere and they'd fit onto any other Sherman, as long as you kept the same suspension type! But the Soviet tank that I'd love to get is a T64. Light weight but high-powered for good mobility, pretty decent armor, and a good gun, especially one of the latest mods with integrated laser rangefinder FCS and able to fire AT8 or AT11 missiles though the gun. |
