I have a medieval German army for Lion Rampant and I'm considering getting a Mongol army to fight against them. It's tough for many games to model this combat in a fun way. Does it work with Lion Rampant? I'm unclear whether the Mongols can evade charges. Thanks, Steve |

There are evade rules; you need to make a die roll to succeed (if you feel the need, you might give the Mongols a better-than-normal chance) and I think you even get to shoot and run. So yes, should be do-able; though you'll want a reasonably wide-open space for the Mongols to play. My experience is with mid-15th Century, and the trick is keeping the archery toned-down. |

I've used horse archers in my medieval Russian armies – I used the Mounted Yeoman stat with the expert upgrade. They work just fine and its fun to have two differently organised armies face off rather than just knights vs knights. A Mongol army would be mostly, if not all horse archers, it basically just makes their archery mobile in the game. Using the MY stat allows them to evade and skirmish, ie they can move and shoot in one activation. I say go for it! |
