1. What is the distance/time you would willingly travel to play in a game (say a 4-6 hour session)?

2. What is the distance/time you would travel to a Convention/Show (looking at the US model of a mult-day event)?

For me, 1 is @ 2 hours (roughly 100 miles) and 2 is 6-10 hours (roughly 5-700 miles)

leidang24 Mar 2015 4:17 p.m. PST

1 is 1 hour (I have a lot of great gaming close by)
2 is 6 hours (Occasionally much further for a big con)

1. 1 hour (2 hour round trip).
2. Honestly, not much more. Maybe 2 hours (4 round trip).

I just don't like to drive that much. That's why I'm glad Nashcon is local for me.

jurgenation Supporting Member of TMP24 Mar 2015 4:46 p.m. PST

1.1 hour 2.1- 2 days of driving. I am in Nebraska, everything is far away.

coryfromMissoula24 Mar 2015 4:58 p.m. PST

I base it on a mix of the game should be longer than the dive and what time I'll be getting home.

No more than 15 minutes (10 miles)for an evening game, a couple of hours/150 miles for a day long game (or two games back to back, maybe three to four hours for a weekend game or event.

jugenation, which end? I drive to Denver for GenghisCon (7 hours)

Personal logo McKinstry Supporting Member of TMP Fezian24 Mar 2015 5:19 p.m. PST

1 is 1.5 hours max

2 is 13-14 hours since that's how long it has taken to get to Cold Wars or Fall In when the weather didn't cooperate.

The Beast Rampant24 Mar 2015 5:22 p.m. PST

1. I have done 2-hours one way, several times.

2. I have done 4 hours, could do twice that without too much trouble.

114th Pennsylvania Supporting Member of TMP24 Mar 2015 5:42 p.m. PST

1) is 4 hour round trip (100 mile Circle around Philly- Fantastic area for Gamers)

2) I have done 12 hours round trip (Looking to try my first Fly in convention soon)

TMPWargamerabbit24 Mar 2015 6:02 p.m. PST

Local group games average one hour or less (50 miles). Conventions travel about the same here in Los Angeles CA.

JimDuncanUK24 Mar 2015 6:22 p.m. PST

1. 1 hour or hopefully much less.

2. 4 hours drive by car and 4 hours back again or 700-800 miles by plane over 3-4 days and 700-800 mile home again.

coolyork24 Mar 2015 6:25 p.m. PST

1. Is 1 Hour
2. Is "what ever time it takes" ( which in a normal year is from 3 hours to 20 hours )

vtsaogames24 Mar 2015 7:10 p.m. PST

1 1 hour or so
2 have not been to a convention since 1979 or 80

Wargamer Blue24 Mar 2015 7:52 p.m. PST

In January I traveled 3,720km from Perth to Canberra.

Samuel McAdorey24 Mar 2015 9:25 p.m. PST

1. 1 hour.
2. 12 hours.

f u u f n f24 Mar 2015 10:28 p.m. PST

1) I used to drive roughly 3 hours each way about once a month from Yuma to Phoenix for an afternoon of gaming. Once in a while they would come out to Yuma.
These days I found a group 5-10 minutes away.

2) I have yet to go to a convention. Maybe this year… maybe next.

demiurgex25 Mar 2015 5:30 a.m. PST

1. 1.5 hours – though it helps if that's due to range, and not traffic. A nice drive in the country is great – driving around rush hour traffic in the DMV is something I just won't do.

2. I'd say 3-5 for regular convention attendance, but that's because I have options locally. Once in a while I'd take a day drive (12 hours).

OSchmidt25 Mar 2015 6:02 a.m. PST

If the game is with a friend, 8 hours.

For a convention 2 days.

My ability to do the latter has been limited by working. So for example it would take me two days to get out to the Seven Years War Convention, which I never can find the vacation time to do.

After August, when I retire, all things are possible.

Please note this is for America.

whitphoto25 Mar 2015 6:23 a.m. PST

I regularly (4-6 times a month) travel an hour each way to play at one of two clubs but will only do it if I'm getting 2 or more games in, usually Bolt Action or Infinity. I used to travel 20 minutes once a week for a game of Malifaux but that group seems to have fallen apart.

My work life only allows me to go to one convention which is local, but I'd be willing to travel 3 hours each way for a weekend convention.

nazrat25 Mar 2015 7:04 a.m. PST

1. 2-4 hours depending on the group running the game.

2. I regularly drive 9-10 hours to HMGS functions up in PA.

boy wundyr x25 Mar 2015 7:39 a.m. PST

My actual stats:
1) 1 hour each way (maybe 75 minutes if traffic is bad)
2) 3 hours each way (doing this again Friday!)

Both would increase for special opportunities, I hope to get to an American con sometime (I'm in Canada).

rampantlion25 Mar 2015 7:42 a.m. PST

#1 is 3 hours
#2 is 12 hours for a multi day con

Winston Smith25 Mar 2015 9:41 a.m. PST

Most of our games are down on my basement. 10 seconds?

3 hours to drive to a convention if I drive by myself. Longer with shared driving.

steamingdave4725 Mar 2015 10:13 a.m. PST

1. Travel 75 minutes to club games (that's just over 40 miles on country roads) and 20 minutes or so for regular weekly games at a friend's house.
2. Try to limit journeys to conventions to a couple of hours- say 80 to 100 miles, but have driven up to 4 hours for something special.

At my age, have to take into account availability of " pit-stops" ( rest rooms to our US friends)!

ViscountEric25 Mar 2015 10:30 a.m. PST

1. Just over 2 hours.

2. Just over 2 hours.

BW195925 Mar 2015 5:29 p.m. PST

1) 1 hour
2) 8-9 hours

Charlie 1225 Mar 2015 7:09 p.m. PST

1) 2 hours (and I do it every 2 weeks)

2) Driving? Not an option (zero cons in my area). But did just do SoCal to Cold Wars (6 hours by plane and then driving from Philly to Lancaster on Thur in the snowstorm…).

Who asked this joker26 Mar 2015 8:04 a.m. PST

1) 1 hour
2) 5 hours

AuttieCat12 Apr 2015 11:42 a.m. PST

It depends on the group hosting the game, attendance and to a slightly lesser extent---the game itself. I guess about (75) miles to a game that will last about six to eitht hours. Usually after about eight hours of continuous gaming, I start to mentally wear out.

TheKing3012 Apr 2015 12:25 p.m. PST

1) 90 minutes
2) 6 hours (but that's pushing it)

Rudysnelson14 Apr 2015 5:03 p.m. PST

As a vendor, my shortest trip is between 4 and 5 hours (Hattisburg, Augusta and Nashville). My longest trips used to be 1314 hours to Historicon, Chicago, OKC, Dallas. My average trip is 9 hours (Orlando, Tampa, St Louis, New Orleans.).

RE: My longest trips used to be 1314 hours to Historicon

YOU WIN!

Rudysnelson16 Apr 2015 3:33 p.m. PST

Yes was a long one any way you look at it. LOL! 13/14 hours.

jdpintex18 Apr 2015 6:43 a.m. PST

1. I've driven up to 2 hours one way for a single game. Usually try to keep it around an hour.

2. If it's a distant convention, then I fly. When I went to Huzzah in Maine a few years back it was around 6 hours with a lay over.

christot19 Apr 2015 12:07 a.m. PST

Used to regularly travel 200 miles, say, around 4 hours, for a weekend game and once a year I used to go down to the depths of Cornwall for a week long game, probably only 250 miles but a 5 hour drive due to the roads, then discovered railways, much easier.
