I know that during later periods such as the Napoleonic Era British Guard Infantry regiments were considerably larger than their line counterparts. Was the establishment of English Guard Infantry regiments during the War of Spanish Succession larger as well? |

Not that I have ever seen noted. The British force in the WSS does not seem to have had numbers problems noted. |

As far as I know, the British Guards in the c18th and Napoleonic periods had a very similar if not identical establishment to the line, in terms of companies per battalion and theoretical strength per company. However, the Guards had two or even three battalions per regiment. It was thus easier for the Guards regiments to draft individual battalions going on foreign service up to full strength and keep them strong with replacements than it was for the line infantry, with its mostly single battalion units. |
