Hi to all, I have started to prepare for the 1815 battles that the NWS will be fighting up through to Waterloo and have started to get some of my old troops out in readiness. [URL=http://s408.photobucket.com/user/carloboyoz/media/Battle%20of%20Bran%20Alleud%202009/DAY%2012.jpg.html]

Great looking game! Lovely paintwork, vibrant colors! Looks like mostly Front Rank Figures, one of my favorites. Your command stands are fantastic. Is that a clubhouse or a private games room? Great looking place to play. |

Absolutely marvellous. Did you ever do the heavies? The DB Carabiniers…….. Must ask about the Perry HA as well. They are not often seen and they were the first Perry unit I bought out of curiosity………look where that led to! The plumes in orange look great, but I stuck with boring black, initially with red in, then overpainted on further research. The orange looks far better. Artistic licence or some evidence for it? |

Agree entirely about artistic licence. As I said, they look far better and, if it is just a bit of imagination, begs the question why they did not wear Orange plumes? Just genuinely curious as I have heard varying info about their headwear. I do appreciate that, as with so many DB units, in a state of transition, the answer may well be no one knows! |

Hi gents, Yes a bit of artistic license on that one for sure though subsequent research States they should be black. However that change according to my quartermaster happened surely in July 1815 ;-) Certainly do have the heavies and they will be up next week. Thanks to all |

Exactly what I meant about DBs…no one seems to have the slightest idea what they looked like in June 1815. Change nothing! Funny, but they (The DBs) seem to disappear out of the history of what was left of the Hundred Days within a very short interval. I guess they entered France, but did they get as far as Paris, or were they sidelined by the bigger countries that had hardly seen a shot fired? The heavies by Perry I think are brilliant. Your light cavalry are superbly painted |

Deadhead, the "Dutch Belgians", we prefer the term army of the Netherlands, did participate in the invasion of France and I believe besieging some frontier fortress town. Erwin Muilwijk, the author of 3 books on the Netherlands army in 1815 is preparing a fourth volume on this theme, I don't know how far his research is but it will be published (in English) in the not so distant future. Very Nice figures indeed pyjamas in the desert, well done and indeed there is uncertainty about what the troops wore on the day of battle as many regulations were only implemented after the battle. |

Incredible how many terms applied to to the two countries we now call Belgium and Holland (no! Not Holland at all, that is just part of the modern Netherlands) The Low Countries The North and South Netherlands Walloon/Flemish Brabant/Batavia The United Provinces Spanish and Austrian Netherlands Belgium and the Netherlands There may be others, but I cannot recall offhand Thanks for the info post the Battle. Often wondered. Their whole contribution has surely been understated for nearly 200 years. They performed far better than any one expected or had any right to ask in the Hundred Days. Not just Perponcher at Q Bras either! |

Hi Gents, It is strange as the best book I have ever seen on the cavalry of teh Netherlands during the period was by Andre Dellevoet who titled his volume "Dutch-Belgian Cavalry at Waterloo – a military history". If you get a chance to buy it and are interested in this period, then don't miss the opportunity. |
