At the moment i am working in a country where the miniature war game seen..is me..after a year without war gaming i am trying to make two H.Y.W. armies and start playing with my favorite impetus rules. As i am going to play solo for at least 4-5 years i was wondering if you had some ideas about Random Event cards for the period i can use..to create a bit of the unknown and spice up my solo games. Also i would like some ideas in how or when to use them during the game. Also are there sites you can create those cards? Maybe cards like this exist already and you can buy them or download them for somewhere Maybe weather changes during battle -1 in all shooting etc.. Your input would be highly appreciated! |

I cribbed the Kingmaker deck, changed the names to fit my own kingdom, including the incidence (or rate) of various nobles being sent here or there, for this or that reason, etc. Weather. The simplicity of that event deck was too good and facile to pass up. I didn't have to come up with anything on my own! And I like the feel of it. You could peruse a Kingmaker event deck and modify it to suit your purposes. I should think that a HYW deck would suggest itself, once you had a list of French and Anglo-French nobles, with their relative strengths, and the applicable castles and towns on a map upon which to place each of the noble counters, etc…. |

Didn't you do that for Frankish Greece? Fantastic idea. I've often thought I could do something similar with Medieval Spain in the 1360s. |

For making cards try the 'Magic Set Editor' which also has templates for various CCG's These are from various games (obviously! None of them are Medieval)
I then use ArtsCow to print them professionally. If I don't want to spend the money I print on normal paper and laminate – MSE prints 9 to a page. |

@SBSchifani: You remembered, cool! Sort of "Frankish Greece", because I cut Greece off of Wallachia, made it into an island, freestyled the coastline, and then added towns and castles willy-nilly. It was the outline of Greece with the isthmus which attracted me to the idea in the first place…. |

Check out 'Perfect Captain" games they are free (you can donate to one of their preferred charities – worthwhile causes all) they have some good ideas for WotR games which can be morphed into HYWs. For ideas of unknown forces on the tabletop look into 2FLs use of unknown/unseen force cards on the tabletop. Both have good concepts you can use. Cheers and happy gaming while in 'exile':) |

Also consider Shaun Travers' "Ancient Battlelines Clash" rulesfor fighting battles. I believe they weere designed to be solo friendly. |

Kingmaker – it is the Wars of the Roses. The cards handle random events, combats that you don't want to game, what nobles were killed, all sorts of stuff. Most of the random events are things like "Warden of the Northern Marches to (what ever the castle in the north is)", along with his retinue. All of a sudden the substantial force you've built up sees the largest group leave. |

I love this article and the bonus was the link to 'Magic Set Editor'. I put an article up on my news site about them. wargamenews.org. After I get some made up I will post them. Chris |
