There's a certain element of "say it ain't so" simply because if the accused activity did happen, then that's really not good mojo. However as a practical reality, it won't affect my buying patterns. I like KM's stuff, and I picked it because it best matched what I was looking for vs I think whoever is running the company was a swell guy. He'd have to do some seriously bad stuff before I considered taking my business elsewhere (like, his resin is made from ground up puppies/is Vladimir Putin sort of bad stuff). Still seems weird. I'm not exactly doubting the accusations nearly as much as its like a millionaire shoplifting, just unexpected behavior. |

sexism (I'm sorry, I think the relevant poster needs to check the definition of this I've seen more misogyny here on TMP than on any other wargaming site across the globe!) Right, because an internet community where male members routinely refer to one another and others by various profane slang terms for female genitalia and post "Nun porn" while riffing on Asian sex workers using stereotyped pidgin English all of which the site moderator thinks is just fine isn't the least bit sexist, and two wrongs just so make a right, eh, mate?

BlackWidowPilot… seeing as I don't recall defending Frothers at any point, in fact I made it very clear I am not a member of that community nor do I agree with everything that goes on there… I'm not sure what the is the point of your comment in relation to this thread? You still don't get all that constitutes misogynistic behaviour. As for this: Ye stars and little comets It seems to be a catchphrase you are partial to. IIRC this line is from "Uncle Scrooge Island in the Sky". Well okay, each to their own. If you want to use quotes based on animated characters developed as a means of teaching capitalist, racist, sexist, homophobic, and generally oppressive ideas and lessons to kids, originating from Walt Disney himself, an anti-communist collaborator with McCarthy's witch-hunts of the 1950s and a [edited for better accuracy] suspected American Nazi Party sympathiser (Editors there are reports he attended US nazi rallies in the 1930s – as such these are historical facts)… then be my guest. Me, I always preferred the "Air Pirates"!!! |

Okay, I've edited the previous comment to make it more "accurate" as whilst there has been a huge suspicion on this subject for decades and indeed some far right groups in America have claimed the same things in order to give themselves validity, it is an assertion that is hard to prove for certain and written with too much haste on my part so I've retracted/corrected it. But I'm happy to let the rest stand as written. It's interesting Patrick Sexton that is the only bit you appear to take issue with…? Also on the same subject… Jewish people were ready fodder for the Disney Studio animators' gags and Disney approved every scene in every short the studio made. In one scene in the original version of "The Three Little Pigs," the Big Bad Wolf comes to the door dressed as a stereotypical Jewish peddler. Disney changed the scene after complaints from Jewish groups but they didn't catch them all, though. In the short "The Opry House" Mickey Mouse is seen dressed and dancing as a Hasidic Jew. It was pretty ropey stuff to say the least! |

Context is of course everything, so I can just imagine how such figures would sell with the crowd you're so keen to defend from all the mean people here on TMP… Not too many I suspect, as they're wearing too many clothes (and no Nun's head covers) in that particular thread concerning proposed figures to represent the trope femme fatale of popular sci fi, action, and anime dressed and armed in such a way to both "handle the job" and show off that they are indeed a femme fatale… Seriously, if you're going to hold TMP to such a strict standard, then do tell, when will you start voicing your moral outrage on Frothers for their penchant for overtly misogynistic, foul language, "Nun porn," stereotyping of Asian sex workers speaking in Pidgin English, and any and all displays of semi and fully naked female forms? Yes, do tell, when does your personal moral crusade against the den of gratuitous misogynistic vulgarity that is Frothers commence, mate? This is rapidly descending into an even bigger excrement storm than it started up as (which – in of itself – is pretty astonishing, I have to say). Personally, I find the recent comments of both 'badlydressedhob' and 'Metal Guru' both unnecessarily inflammatory and – rather more importantly – adding utterly zip to any portion of the original thread's point or even the subsequent areas it has strayed into (legal eagles, trams and ballistic armour to name but a few). Other than childishly trying to score points, where do you brave – and of course anonymous – chaps think you are steering this 'conversation'? I thought bringing the nazis into the conversation in an completely unnecessary way (Disney etc) was usually a warrant for a ticket to the Dog House, but maybe I'm wrong. I suppose if it's historically accurate that makes it appropriate? Er: no. Not in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned you two gentlemen are just prolonging this piffle for far longer than it needs to be, purely for the exercise of your own on line voice. I think you have achieved nothing except wind people up but then, perhaps that was always the point. I wouldn't call it pure 'trolling' as such, but I'm sure 'Variags' fits the bill, in a half-and-half kind of Tolkienesque way, if you see what I'm saying: sort of 'Troll-lite' (to use an appalling term…). I will now do what I do with all ridiculous and (I say again) anonymous comments of this kind (see my earlier analogy about ablution doors): via the magic of that electronic brillo pad dipped in bleach called the 'stifle button' I won't have to bother reading this any more. Anyone got anything to add to this thread that is actually worth reading? John Treadaway |

Wow. You've got to be kidding me. Please tell me that the above is satire.Martin Highly doubtful he's being satirical. I originally encountered the quote on a discussion board dedicated to the works of Robert A. Heinlein back in the 1990s (someone else used it on me in reaction to my "daring" to break down to them the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of "trickle down economics" IIRC, and I thought it was whimsical in and of itself).
If our dear "badlydressedhob" had actually done a bit deeper digging, he might have discovered that I am hardly one to "…use quotes based on animated characters developed as a means of teaching capitalist, racist, sexist, homophobic, and generally oppressive ideas and lessons to kids…" among other matters, but hey, why let that get between one and a good rant? What has Frothers got to do with the running of TMP? Best ask them that question, as on the evidence a number of them have spent a great deal of time and effort to troll TMP and TMP members on a "crusade" to "expose" the Editor…
Just because this forum has higher standards, doesn't mean they should be allowed to slip because there is a worse forum around! And we are in enthusiastic agreement here.
Perhaps badlydressedhob doesn't care about what goes on at Frothers as much as you do? So he has said apparently, then proceeded to carry on their schtick of late here on TMP…
It's no good coming here to complain about them, you should take your complaints to their forum if it bothers you so much. That would require that I regard the Frothers as being of some small importance to me to actually *be* bothered. Nope. I'd rather take that time and do something far more interesting and productive. On the other hand maybe you don't mind as you seem very familiar with the contents of their forum ;-) They're their own operation and whatever they choose to do and their site mod(s) allows them to do on their site is their business, so no, I don't care actually. My only gripe is that some amongst their membership have taken it upon themselves to troll TMP rather mercilessly as they seem to regard themselves as an adjunct of the Anonymous Collective (and Bill the reincarnation of someone less than pleasant deserving of such attentions). It's the principle of Those Who Live in Glass Houses Shouldn't Be So Quick to Throw Stones. I'm sure you've heard of that principle. Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net

Leland: As much as I would like to think he's playing at satire, I suspect you're right. Sadly, there is just a certain percentage of folks out there who are hand wringers that just LIVE to be offended at all sorts of perceived examples of "racism", "oppression", and other over-used emotional buzz words. Or I should actually say "pretend to be offended", as I strongly suspect that a high percentage of those folks don't believe half of what they state, and are just expressing faux-outrage in order to make a political point. But what do I know? Martin |

Re: "or a millionaire serial killer." Nah. Killing people is removed from having means unless it's some continuing murder for profit scheme. There's nothing that prevents having money, and being stabby. Shoplifting more often than not is the desire to have something but the lack of means to acquire it. Having millions of dollars generally means the normal motive for shoplifting is gone. Which is why this whole mess is confusing, the product line was quite well established, and his business was doing well enough to include major delays and shop closures. It's not like there was a "ancient Persian empire miniatures" that was directly and clearly taking business away from him and man, he just needed to get that edge in to stay competitive by throwing some nasty/positive comments around via socks (which is still not at all good, but it at least has a logic to it). |

If you look back to post 199 you will see it was a tongue in cheek attempt to induce some levity into the thread and reduce tension, which judging by the messages I received has worked well. Regarding the 'recent' selling of Feudal Castings, you have some curious definitions there. We picked it up in 2004 (hardly aeons ago) and sold it in 2012 (not really that recent). It was sold for commercial considerations as a self contained range that gave us other commercial opportunities (lovely new Gauls, for example, but also opportunities not visible to the public). However as a range it was starting to show it's age and dating much faster than Freikorp, which is generally superior in both detail, pose and width. However we do have a new dark ages range under development now the non-compete clause has come to an end. |
