"I still want a John the OFM, 15mm figure to lead my Soviet Army !!!!!

Now THIS is an idea whose time has come…. or at least a visibly recognizable 28mm head and 15mm head suitable for converting figures so we can all have our own John the OFM personality figure in our favorite army or armies…"

Sounds like an idea for a sculpting contest… ;-)

Someone here advocates a draconian enforcement of the rules and then violates those selfsame rules. Go figure!

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian02 Jun 2015 3:32 p.m. PST

Isn't this still a rule, or do we allow anyone to come on here with their personal dislikes and call anyone they don't like a troll?

He's dancing just shy of the rule…

He's dancing just shy of the rule…

How? By using the troll emoticon rather than the actual word?

His post at 11:06am is insufficient?

Cyrus the Great02 Jun 2015 4:30 p.m. PST

How? By using the troll emoticon rather than the actual word?

Yes!

It's the old "spirit of the law" vs. the "letter of the law argument". TMP clearly favors the latter.

Both sides in that have valid arguments. But, likewise, both are open to abuse.

Winston Smith02 Jun 2015 4:56 p.m. PST

The troll emoticon has traditionally been a humorous way to get away with it.

Winston Smith02 Jun 2015 4:59 p.m. PST

The "spirit of the law" would cite Weaton's Law. grin
I think that applies.

Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy02 Jun 2015 5:59 p.m. PST

Do you (without resorting to Google), troll?

Goonfighter02 Jun 2015 11:20 p.m. PST

Can I be a punk with a chip on his shoulder and an all round bad attitude too please? Is there a t shirt that we can wear?

alien BLOODY HELL surfer03 Jun 2015 2:48 a.m. PST

Goonfighter only if you are in Law Enforcement in real life, cos only then can you understand the need for rules and why everyone must obey every single one or the world will end, or somesuch.

Goonfighter03 Jun 2015 4:11 a.m. PST

Real….life? Umm. Try that again?

Winston Smith03 Jun 2015 4:37 a.m. PST

The Lads at Frothers suggest on page 1904 or 1905 of "that thread" that Trench Raider has his very own sick puppet operating on this very page.
I am not convinced, mainly because I have no interest in background checks on wargaming sites.
However, they do claim some expertise in internet sleuthing.
I find the evidence on the level of a History Channel link between George Washington and UFOs. "Could it be that….."
Which is why I mention no names.

Interesting. grin

Btw. What is that show with the guy with the strange hairdo who says "Aliens?" I would like to check it out.

Oh Bugger03 Jun 2015 4:43 a.m. PST

Reading TMP seems to have got more complex now we have to nip over to Frothers to find out what what is being discussed.

Winston Smith03 Jun 2015 4:45 a.m. PST

And in a private email, one of the Lads suggested a possible identity for one of Dear Editor in Chief's sock puppets. Naturally a Supporting Member.
Nothing but the best!
Would he? grin I would. It would …. amuse me to do so.
Does it matter?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian03 Jun 2015 5:06 a.m. PST

…one of the Lads suggested a possible identity for one of Dear Editor in Chief's sock puppets…

Like most of their speculations, it is pure fantasy. grin

Winston Smith03 Jun 2015 5:12 a.m. PST

Hold on. I didn't say who it was!
Yet.

Robert Kennedy03 Jun 2015 7:17 a.m. PST

Me perhaps????? grin.

Winston Smith03 Jun 2015 8:10 a.m. PST

That would be too obvious. The flashing neon lights and all that.

Cyrus the Great03 Jun 2015 9:43 a.m. PST

that Trench Raider has his very own sick puppet operating on this very page.

You know, I read the same thing and checked out his FB. Seems pretty convincing to me.

B6GOBOS03 Jun 2015 10:32 a.m. PST

Wow! Did not see a Scooby Doo ending on this thread….

Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy03 Jun 2015 11:32 a.m. PST

I've been saying for some time now that TMP has a troll problem, and that this issue is being caused by just a handful of problem members. I still believe that and stand by that statement.

That being said, I have been going back and re-reading some of my posts from the last couple of days. I'm not liking what I'm seeing. I've gone a bit too far and have crossed over the line of acceptable behavior. Most people are harsher online than in person, and I try to limit the extent to which I alter my normal behavior when posting online. I've failed pretty badly here.

The result has been that I've angered and alienated a number of folks that I have no issue or quarrel with. I've negatively effected people aside from the actual targets of my venom. That sort of "collateral damage" is simply not acceptable to me. Likewise, my actions have disrupted the forum. That was never my intention as I'm not a troll. But I have come dangerously close to becoming what I am fighting. That is going to stop. Now.

It is little doubt that the name "Trench Raider" will continue to have a negative association for the folks I've angered. So to put that behind me, and to get a fresh start I'm retiring my "TrenchRaider" account.

I'll still be around, of course. I value TMP too much as a resource and source of entertainment to leave. So I'll be using what I call my "Professional Account" (ie the one using the name I write under) from here on out. But on that account I'm just going to stifle the trolls and let them be someone else's problem. I'm also going to make an effort to stay away from the "off topic" forums like TMP talk as that is were much of the bad behavior is concentrated.

So that's it. I apologize to those that I have angered or alienated. (except for OFM, of course. He deserves whatever he gets. ;-) )

I'll now perform the TMP equivalent of committing public suicide by stifling, Armintrout.
Bye.

Dave Arrowsmith03 Jun 2015 12:46 p.m. PST

Well said Trenchraider, I must say that I did not like your internet persona and it deffinatly brought out the worse side of me, but it took a big man to write your last entry and I will stand and applaud you for that. Good luck with your new endevour, best wishes, Dave.

Winston Smith03 Jun 2015 2:20 p.m. PST

Ave atque vale.

Goonfighter03 Jun 2015 3:43 p.m. PST

Do you do cappuccinos?

Slappy03 Jun 2015 4:05 p.m. PST

Wow – drama for nothing. Do some of these people own Tvs I could suggest some shows for them to watch.

A Buzzard HQ03 Jun 2015 4:25 p.m. PST

I thought I'd post on TMP (after a gap of about 6 months again) due to this interesting development, for which I applaud The Editor for dealing with, not ignoring.

I'd actually be grateful if The Editor could refer back to my post of 13 May last year

TMP link

"Where does the rule of not attacking an individual stop, and raising concerns about commercial sharp practice start? Perhaps The Editor can give some indication on what his view would be on this."

In light of this thread, I wondered if The Editor, who didn't respond at the time, could now answer it. Consider if anything similar to this case happens in future, and someone posted a suspicion about it.

I'd like to know if it would be likely that they would be considered to be breaching the rules on harassment by raising a red flag on an individual, but who was posting in breach of the rules, as it appears in this case, or possibly attempting to manipulate Board listings, in his role as a sole trader/seller? Or is it forbidden to raise this sort of subject on TMP Talk, and that you'd prefer to be sent an email behind the scenes?

My post was of course in the midst of the big Tango01 debate, so fully understand that The Editor may not have seen it at the time.

Thanks

Andrew

Why don't you raise that as a separate topic? More people will see it that way.

Also, I'm not sure I understand what you mean…

Slappy03 Jun 2015 6:28 p.m. PST

So is that it Trenchraider is gone?

Mitochondria03 Jun 2015 8:25 p.m. PST

Yes. TrenchRaider is gone. The guy is still here though. Under his professional name. So, presumably he will be more low key.

A Buzzard HQ03 Jun 2015 11:04 p.m. PST

Editor in Chief Bill

Thank you for your reply.

There are already enough hypothetical question threads posted on TMP Talk. If necessary in future, I will instead email you setting out my concerns, including a draft of the text to be posted, for a simple "Okay to proceed?" ruling on the potential of a "harassment" ban before posting.

Thanks

Andrew
