Ok, after playing Bolt Action I have realized that I do not like using dice for pin markers…. Because they get bumped, picked up and generally confused with the other dice flying around the table.

Also, I am big on the aesthetics of the terrain and the table in general. There are several great ideas out there for designating pins on a unit, dice holders, click dials, and some really nice flag counters…. But I wanted something that stood out, while blending in with the overall look of the game if that makes sense?

This is what I came up with:

Oh, going for a Stalingrad look.

They look great, where do the shells come from?

G.I. Joe machine gun I think… found them on e-bay. They are solid brass, but they were cheap.

I thought about using spent 22 casings, but they are too big.

That is brilliant Dervel.

Brilliant. Any idea of a link (ebay, whatever) as to what I'd be looking for, GI Joe shell wise?

Great idea. I hate when tokens, dice, etc. are used as markers.

"Great idea. I hate when tokens, dice, etc. are used as markers."

Amen brother. That needs to be repeated over and over. They detract from the 'look' of the game and the experience. It just ruins an otherwise nice looking table.

Thanks guys…

I got 50 from this guy in china:

auction

Shipping took some time, but it was free!

They are 1/6 scale (I think they go with the large collectable G.I. Joe Figures?)…..

Anyway I liked them because in 28mm they look like 88mm shells :)

They look great. I found these in "20mm" scale.

Haven't found anything similar in UK sites yet, but will keep looking. Certainly a lot better than printed tokens.

I use prone figures for my 20mm ww2 to show pinned units. I could see these being good for shock counters.

Very cool idea.

Secret Weapon Miniatures also has spent shell casings for 28mm.
