If you are looking for a good book on the topic of the munera, Susanna Shadrake's "The World of the Gladiator" (Tempus Publishing Ltd.)is the best one I've found. Scholarly, filled with illustrations, photos, and details.

Another, slightly more casual book is Fik Meijer's "The Gladiators: History's Most Deadly Sport".

A few good books I used for research for "Blood on the Sands" are: -

"Gladiator: The Roman Fighter's (Unofficial) Manual" by Philip Matyszak – tongue in cheek and well written, but contains some great information.

"Gladiator: Rome's Bloody Spectacle" by Konstantin Nossov – a great general source book on the subject.
