I've seen some discussion on the boards about the prospects for 3D models. I got my hands on a model of a Humvee recently that isn't too bad. Other than it not being the right scale, shame about the need for a £1,200.00 GBP machine to produce it! But not too bad.

£1,200.00 GBP for the machine, and still quite notable striations.

If it came as a free 3D file, presumably the scale of the printed item can be altered fairly easily?

In theory, yes, only often details need to be rescaled if there is a significant scale difference. Panel lines at 1/100 scale become trenches at 1/56… or going the other way panel lines at 1/56 are invisible at 1/100.
