A customer has had a brilliant idea that at first went straight past me:

He ordered some of our Puritan superheavy power armour from our post-apoc range…

picture

And a Mekanoid Dictator battlemech from 15mm sci fi…

picture

At first I thought, that's an interesting mixture, but then the brilliance of it struck me -- they look perfect together! Add a Hatchet gunship and the whole force has quite a unified look…

We have a whole series of new Mekanoids coming out which may be released by kickstarter, and they would serve as excellent robotic auxiliaries to the Puritan superheavy armour…

Always inspiring to see what force combos customers put together. My recent favourite was ancient Germans … and penguins!

You just gave me another good idea !!

I spent part of this week doing some modding work on dive watches, part of which includes hotting up the lume on the dial and watch hands.

You can get this newish high-tech 'SuperLuminova' powder, which you mix with a matte binder (Vallejo matte varnish works fine), and the resultant mix is a fine paste which gives off an extreme glow that lasts for hours once you hit it with some sunlight.

Its easy to paint fine lines with the SuperLume mix – such as numbers on the dial, etc.

The powders come in a range of tints, such as traditional green glow, blue tint, or a bright white glow.

This stuff would work absolute wonders on these models – all those glowing blue lights and weapon pods in the pics could be glowing blue lights on the real models.

Would look fantastic on any SF models !!

Got to give it a try !

I can only imagine what odd mixes of orders you get, K.

Interesting stuff! Might need to get some of those to work with my Infinity minis and maybe the Eureka 15mm scifi German stormtroopers (for glowing eyes).

I don't think there was anything odd about this -- I think it was inspired. The Puritan shoulder cannon even has analogy to the carapace cannons on the dictator.

Yeah, those are a good combination. I can't imagine why my combined order of Achaemenid Persians and Vacation Aliens didn't get a mention though … ;)

The new Mechaniods look great, I would be keen to back a Kickstarter for those.

Question: Have you thought about teaming up with Robin Fitton (Gruntz) to make "official" Gruntz cards for your 15mm line? Maybe playing card sized packs?

We kinda chatted it up a few years ago but we didn't follow through--probably my fault.

I really don't have a purpose for the giant robot thing, but every time I'm on Khurasan's website I'm half tempted to go for it just because. Maybe when I get tired of space demons and zombies I'll switch to robots for my terrible hoards of things games.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd buy em if you had em.
Now that I have steady income I can start really ordering from you. Have some you're packing up and sending my way now…

hmm, I've always thought of the Mekanoid range as the best 15mm Syntha proxies out there, never thought of the Puritans filling in as Assault Androsynths – which was the only gap in that army list that a khurasan miniature couldn't fill.

Now, if only somebody would start making 15mm Junker Legionaries…

EDIT: sorry, that was all a reference to Void 1.1, still my favorite sci-fi wargame despite the fact that I haven't played it in years

billthecat01 Apr 2015 8:42 a.m. PST

Fritadas: Yes, the 'Void 1.1' system is the most eloquent 28mm platoon level sci-fi rule system I have seen yet: unit alternation with a 'turn sequence' inside a units activation, a nice d10 numerical range for stats/rolls, and weapon stats that vary with range. Just as easy as VOR or Warzone, or 2nd ed. 40K, but with much more fluid play. The miniatures were hit and miss and the Universe needed a little polishing, but what a great rule system!
As far as 15mm goes, I have decided that at this scale things need to be based in multiples, so I won't use 'traditional' 28mm scale rules (3-5 figures/base for infantry)… and Khurasan is the best 15mm company for all your gaming needs!
