So sad to hear that Terry Pratchett died today aged 66 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. A truly wonderful writer and a great man. Rest in Peace, Terry. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten. |

Very saddening news. RIP. *** SIR TERRY PRATCHETT? Yes? THIS WAY PLEASE. Oh. Right. You know, I wasn't really expecting to see… NO ONE REALLY IS. No, I guess not. Still, I hope you weren't upset by anything I wrote. I know, perhaps it might seem a bit self-serving and disingenuous to be apologizing now… DO NOT WORRY. YOU WERE QUITE AMUSING. HA HA. Right. Well, that's all good then? IF AMUSING IS GOOD. I AM REGRETTABLY UNCLEAR ON SOME OF THESE HUMAN EMOTIONAL THINGS. Well, yes, perhaps you would be. STILL… Uh… Yes? "BINKY?" --- In Memoriam and with apologies to Sir Terry Pratchett. |

Terry Pratchett, in his own words… "The whole of life is just like watching a film. Only it's as though you always get in ten minutes after the big picture has started, and no-one will tell you the plot, so you have to work it out all yourself from the clues." — from Moving Pictures "Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time." – from Hogfather "I'd rather be a rising ape than a falling angel." "It's not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing it." "Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one." "Fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can." "The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it." – from Monstrous Regiment "It's still magic even if you know how it's done." – from A Hat Full of Sky "There are times in life when people must know when not to let go. Balloons are designed to teach small children this." "The entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks." "If you don't turn your life into a story, you just become a part of someone else's story." – from The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents "The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head." "Goodness is about what you do. Not who you pray to." – from Snuff "I have no use for people who have learned the limits of the possible." "So much universe, and so little time." |

Sir Terry Pratchett made me laugh, even in some of the darkest days (and places) of my life. Not to mention helping me to consider, re-consider, and think once more again. A remarkable talent, and a remarkable man. Thank you, Sir Terry, and may your walk across the plain be short enough and filled with light and joy at the end. |

A man who made his living taking nothing seriously but words. A brilliant observer of human nature and a word-smith with few equals. I shall miss him. The world has suddenly got one more step toward being ALL boring. |

A man who's writings amused and provoked me for the last 30 years. They also provoked out loud giggles at times when life was being more unkind than usual. I wore the paperbacks to death but now I have just about all his work in hardback instead. I will treat them even more carefully now. Radio 4 was asking "Which book to start with if you haven't read any of his work ?" It has to be Colour Of Magic as it sets the scene for so much that follows. My personal favourites are Pyramids and Small Gods, closely followed by Lords and Ladies. I trust his journey across the great dark desert will be swift and when he arrives on the other side his heart will indeed weigh less than a feather …. |

So much to remember, so much to be grateful for. I think much more kindly of Morris Dancing after he turned it into a martial art. And I haven't dared do mime in years. |
