I managed to finish this command base off in between my various graphic design jobs. I think it turned out ok, but maybe a little glossy though.

I wasn't sure what the figure in the shako that was included in the "General" set was for, so painted it as an Aide.

Thanks for looking,

Glossy is good in my book! Nice figures.

I like the expression of the figures, looking great.

Colin,
They look great.

All you guys keep tempting me with French Revolutionary figures (that includes you vW) that I'm starting to wonder why I ever sold off my Foundry figures,

John

John, you probably sold them because deep down inside you know they are the wrong scale. A 32 man unit in 28mm takes up far too much space, takes too long to paint, and costs a small fortune compared to 15/18mm.

I forgot to say, I've ordered a couple more sets from LCC; Camp Followers and Priests (Three Priest and dismounted cavalry officer with mount) and Camp Followers and Sutleress (Dismounted hussar leading heavily laden horse and three Sutleress).

I'll post reviews when they arrive.

Much more in the assembly line – a good way to restart would be with Sho Bokis Austrian Chevaulegers when he turns them out in due course ;-))

You appear to use a black undercoat. I notice that paint coverage on the horses is uneven, and that there's some black showing through on raised detail. This can be prevented by damp brushing white over the black undercoat once it's dry.

This process really does provide an excellent foundation for painting horses quickly and convincingly in the smaller scales.

Thanks Henry, sounds like good advise. To be honest, I hate painting horse. In fact, I REALLY hate painting horse. I'm happy just to get them painted and on the table. I know its strange to go to the trouble of getting uniforms right, or getting the right figures for the period, and then painting the horses slap-dash, but I just can't face doing them right, especially now that the eyes are getting old and there's arthritis in my hands.

I should add that when painting horses with this method you can be just as casual and damp brush the colour on; hence the speed.
