Hi everyone!
My friend and I are looking to start some sailing ship wargaming. But for that we need models. We're interested in 1/1200 scale. I know of 4 producers: Langton, GHQ, Skytrex (currently at redeagleminiatures.co.uk/) and Navwar. Unfortunately I could not find a good comparison of those ranges. Various standards of photography and painting skills presented in pictures around the web make the assessment of quality differences quite hard.

So my question is:
Does anyone know of such a comparison or has access to some of those models and could make a picture or two? What I would like to see are those models on "even ground*"

* I'm sorry ;p

Hello NameReader,
I work with Langton, are the most expensive of all boats 1/1200 but their quality is the best. The next best is GHQ. Navwar has a large variety of boats and a good price, its quality is less good, you have to be pretty modeler to get a good result. My recommendation, if you have money, buy Langton (I do not charge commission from them, lol)

If you want I leave a blog where you can see works on different brands

I hope you serve this.

Greetings,
Julián.

Vol's blog shows the hull and stern gallery differences very well, and of course with wonderfully painted examples! He mentions about scratch-built masts; the GHQ masts and sails just don't compare to the Langton masts and sails, which is why he scratch-built or partially scratch-built them for the GHQ and Davco models. I've never owned a Davco, but I have done like Vol and used GHQ hulls with Langton sails. The GHQ sails are very plain, not animated at all, and just come in one or two settings. I think you can get full sail or battle sail. The masts are very weak, again with not much detail like rope windings, detail around the joining areas of the mast parts. If it's full detail you want, from top to bottom, I would just go with the Langtons. You can also choose from several sail settings (actually about 6 choices) so you can vary the look of your fleet and make it more animated. If you're in the US, Waterloo Minis (www.waterloominis.com) is a good source for the Langtons. Good luck with your fleets!
