Howdy,

I ran Gumbinnen (Scenario No. 2 from Great War East 1914) again at Cold Wars. Eight players, three of them very young, and very enthusiastic. They wore me out as referee. A few photos below. The first four photos show the terrain and undeployed troops. The last five are in progress from the game.

Casualties in the battle were very high, sixty some percent for the Russians, and over 50 percent for the Germans.

Photo 1 – Terrain, looking NE

Photo 2 – Terrain looking SE

Photo 3 – Terrain looking SW

Photo 4 – Terrain looking NE

Photo 5 – Center south (flank of on table battle), Germans advance through the woods.

Photo 6 – Germans advance on the northern flank

Photo 7 – In the center south, the Germans force a stream crossing.

Photo 8 – In the center south, the Germans push past the stream. Their push would sever a key Russian LOC, and win the battle.

Photo 9 – In the center, the German attack fixes the Russians, allowing the flank attack.

Much fun. Played in 15mm using Command Decision – Test of Battle with "Peter Pig" Russians and "Minifig" Germans.

Ponder on,

JAS
