Hi,

I've started playing DBM with my Qin army and i'm looking for information about the stategies and tactics they were using during this era.

Anyone know some website or else where i could find this kind of informations ?

Thanks,

Bru

Start with Sun Tzu, surely?

I've already read it, but it's mostly about logistic and organization not really about battle formations if i remember well.

You can find a lot on the China History Forum site – for example, link

There is an edition of Art of War with commentary written by a PLA general, and he uses fairly detailed examples from Chinese military history of Sun Tzu in action. A wide range of periods are used, but a chunk are Warring States battles.

Supposedly, many of the formations, etc., that the Samurai used were derived from Chinese antecedents.

@McWong: Do you mean this one: link ?

It's the only annotated copy I found listed on Wiki where the annotator had a Chinese name.

Hey mate, holding the book in my hands right now.

Sun Tzu's Art of War, The modern Chinese Interpretation. By General Tao Hanzhang, Sterling Press 1987.

I dont rate it as a version of Sun Tzu's work, but it does contain several examples of Warring States battles as proofs of the old boys theories, and it may give you some insights. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for this mind you.l, though I haven't a clue where you'd find it.

You mentioned strategies in the topic, not battle formations. Thus the confusion; I didn't read the post carefully enough.

Get the WAB book, probably one of the better supplements. Or at the least get access to its bibliography. Bound to be some good book ideas there.

@McWong: I can probably find that at the university library. Thanks!
