Tempted to get back into FOW breaking my '3 times a try' rule regarding wargames but the plastics and nice models are drawing me back. However if I can't get on with it i'd prefer to be able to play others at a system I DO enjoy. So what else is there ?

I play both Crossfire and Hail of Fire with my FoW minis. Haven't played FoW in over a year unfortunately.

Theres a game called victory decision, that is quite okay, CoC by TFL could work as well to some degree. I have played both sets of rules, and they both have their strenghts

Battlefront WW2 is a very good set and also has infantry based in squads.

PanzerGrenadier by Dave Brown (GdB) works fine with FOW based miniatures and gives a very good game if you are looking for something that plays well, has an emphasis on command and control and includes things like hidden deployment – which to me makes it feel more 'authentic'. It also has good support via Dave forum.

PBI works well, Crossfire and Blitzkrieg Commander….all have been played at my club using FoW based minis.

I Aint Been Shot Mum works with extra counters to record kills too.

Look, Sarge, No Charts: WWII has infantry and vehicles based in platoons.

Battlegroup works well in 15mm. You'll want to keep track of casualties in a squad, though.

I play FoW as well as Battlegroup and Panzer Grenadier. FoW basing works with these rules quite well. However, take note that for Battlegroup you will want to base some models (inf.) on alternative bases (some single, a few on 2-3 models a base) for the simple fact you need to remove single model casualties. Oh, the same goes for I Ain't Been Shot Mum! rules by the Lardies. Battlegroup works well with ANY basing system; you just want some models mounted for casualty removal (or just use some marker).

For Panzer Grenadier you can use your models almost as it (and many players do just that). However, I have opted to mount models specifically for PG by mounting 2-3 models per standard FoW "small" base. This works very well (perfect in fact) for PG rules. However, in order to still use these modes(bases actually) with FoW I have made some special FoW bases that have 1 or 2 models on a med. sized base and leave a space on the base to accomadate the small bases I use for PG. Here is a couple pics of what I mean. Note I added a "lip" around the med. FoW bases so the other stands fit snug :)

These are troop bases for the Panzer Grenadier rules. 2-3 figs on a "small" FoW base. Works great for Battlegroup rules to :)

It seems Field of Battle WWII (FoB WWII) by "Piquet" could also be used. Each stand represents a company with three being the manouvre element/battalion. I don't own the rules or have any experience with them…yet, but they sound like a nice set.
