o these cute guys might well be of use in Steampunk Settings as well as more traditional Science Fiction ones. In Hiero's Journey the title characters battle a horde of Frog Creatures and there may well be some of the Unclean's deadly Lemutes that are frog based. Also Karl Edward Wagner's Kane goes up against an army of alien frog creatures at some point (was it in Bloodstone?).

If Wells can have insectoid Selenites these frog creatures could certainly be lurking in an anicent swamp. They might even make decent sleestaks!

phroggs are cool but…
forge of ice has real sleestax!
I dont think they are on his website yet.

Damn, did I miss out on the limited number of discount pledges for the full 10 Phrogg squad already? I was still waiting for this Kickstarter to come online.

Given that the Kickstarter seems to be off to a flying start and I'll have to pay £40.00 GBP for a squad regardless of whether I pledge now or wait until the range is up on the RPE store, I might just hold off on pledging for now.

Forge of Ice minis are really good

tsofian07 Mar 2015 12:23 p.m. PST

Does Forge of Ice have a webpage?

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP07 Mar 2015 12:49 p.m. PST

I think JUST a facebook page; don't do FB, but a visit shows almost nothing.

There's an address in the TMP listing.

I have some of the lads, both a few with clothing, more without, and more on the way.

Darn stiff poses, so perfect Sleestax. ;->=

I'll be absolutely honest and am extremely unlikely to do business with any company that has their web presence based on FB. If they can't be bothered to have a web page anyone can access I can't be bothered to do business with them

Black Cavalier07 Mar 2015 1:06 p.m. PST

Forge of ice has a post on lead-adventure.de that lists all the.catalog and what is in and out of stock.

Rhoderic III and counting07 Mar 2015 4:01 p.m. PST

In fairness I don't think Forge of Ice is so much a company as a hobby project by an enthusiast to provide miniatures for other enthusiasts as best he can with his limited time. I'd like to set up my own Forge of Ice-type hobby enterprise if only I had the money. Alxbates deserves credit for what he's doing.

Ditto; I never even heard the 'Forge of Ice' part, only had the dealings after chatting via fora.

He's been most gracious in all dealings with me.

One-on-one deals like that are inherently dangerous, but I've been incredibly lucky.

And I 'never bet what I can't afford to lose…' ;->=

The Phroggs are awesome, even though I missed the earlybird pledges and had to get a regular slot…still, I'll be getting a bunch of big galumphing frog-warriors, which I've been wanting for a long, long time (why did GW remove the slann from 40K? Are they insane?)

There is another source for sleestak-type lizards, by the way, from Interloper miniatures:

A friend of mine has them and says the whole range is really solid.

And they hit their goal!

TwinMirror08 Mar 2015 12:48 p.m. PST

excellent.

Spacelord08 Mar 2015 1:30 p.m. PST

Those early birds went faster than expected, I was hoping it would fund but I was thinking maybe halfway through rather than day 2 :-)
The current 10 trooper pledge has cheaper than webstore postage and it just may end up with a stretch goal addition to make it more of a deal…

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP08 Mar 2015 2:31 p.m. PST

Phroggs say Slann, not Sleestax to me, but I'm admitting that's a tempting thing.

@Twin Mirror Thanks for those! Hope they scale well with Alexbates'!

Doug

Epic: Might be a bit short, but the stoop is probably close enough. I'll give 'em a try!

As for 'selenites', not the version that Lionel Jeffries gave a sneeze, those 'bugs' have possibilities, and the 'Watership…' with some massive tails added are looking a bit like Rippers!

ARMY Strong09 Mar 2015 8:09 a.m. PST

The sleestak-type lizards are cool but pricey $15 USD for one not sure if I'm reading that right. Ashame would have loved to get a bunch.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP09 Mar 2015 9:09 a.m. PST

Sorry if wrong, but I'm assuming you're talking about the Interlopers.

Hissing Lizards: 'One single-piece and two two-piece unpainted pewter miniatures'

Lurching Lizards: 'Three single-piece unpainted pewter miniatures'

$5 USD apiece is on the edge of my comfort zone, but I'm a well known skinflint. ;->=

Adjusting for Pound>Dollar, the Phroggs are even less.

Doug

TwinMirror09 Mar 2015 9:16 a.m. PST

Yep; the interloper lizards are $15 USD for three which is definitely pricey by my standards too…interloper's mutant hares are the same price, but so beautifully sculpted that I'm sorely tempted.
Have to admit to also being a skinflint, although when it comes to my hobbies, that might not be entirely accurate!

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP12 Mar 2015 3:03 p.m. PST

Just received my second set of beauties from Alex.

I'd forgotten, but same price point as Interloper, but both are gamers who decided to have what they wanted, then sold to others to defray costs. Sort of a reverse KS.

No complaints from me!

Just stumbled across this thread – sorry to be so late to the party.

I'd like to thank the folks who spoke up for their kind words about my small enterprise, Forge of Ice. I do my best with the (very) limited free time I have to put towards it!

I do treat it as a business (I've got the business license to prove it!), but it is very much a labor of love for me. I have grand things that I'd like to do in the future, but until I can find the time to put the work in, things are proceeding slowly.

I'm also aware that some people are deeply phobic of Facebook, which is why I maintain a forum presence here and on the LAF. I will mention that when I was working at the local Comic Shop back in the 1990's, I remember several customers saying things along the lines of,

"I am extremely unlikely to do business with any company that only has a website. If they can't be bothered to have a brick and mortar store that anyone can walk into I can't be bothered to do business with them."

I'm just *barely* old enough to remember the days of ordering miniatures via mail-order catalogs, sight-unseen. Usually all you had was a name and a stock number, maybe, if you were lucky, some line art showing what the figure was supposed to look like.

Not being on FB is a self-limiting choice that you are free to make, but it's the lowest-maintenance format for me to use easily, and something like half a billion people use the site – that's enough for me.

I am aware that not having a working online store is a hassle, but so far I've managed to turn a small profit off of nearly every figure I've had made. People email me a list of what they want, I send them an invoice via Paypal. Paypal offers pretty good buyer protections, and that has been good enough for most people.

That said, I am currently working on setting up an online store through Storenvy, so I should be able to announce something about that fairly soon.

Until then, if you want to see a complete product and price list, I'll refer you here:

Thanks again for the kinds words, folks – it's good to hear that so many people are happy with my products.

Need to add your not-Crocodillos to the LAF post. ;->=

If arm them with medieval weapons instead of firearms they'd make great bullywugs or slaadi for your D&D game.

Alxbates15 Sep 2015 6:23 p.m. PST

I've gotta finish sorting the castings before I can add them to my list :)
